Description
El Hierro day trip
El Hierro is 10 times smaller than Tenerife and has been declared a Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It is the first island capable of self-sufficiency because the whole island gets its electricity from windmills, solar panels and other renewable energy sources. Along the way, you will see the most amazing scenery, volcanic landscapes and some lovely little villages. We stop at the breathtaking viewpoints and have a nice typical Canarian lunch in between the stops.
El Hierro tour – program
The El Hierro tour starts between 6.30-7.20 in the morning. The bus will pick you up from your hotel or the one close to you and we drive to the harbor of Los Cristianos where we take the ferry Naviera Armas. The ferry ride will take about 2,5 hours and we arrive on the beautiful island of El Hierro before 11 in the morning. The first stop will be at Mirador de Isora. It is a stunning viewpoint, looking over the plain of Las Playas. In each viewpoint you have about 15-20 minutes to walk around, take photos and admire the nature and the views. We pass by the smallest village of the island called Tiñor with its 12 inhabitants and we continue our trip towards the viewing point of Jinama where you have amazing views over the Valle del Golfo. After that, we drive through the Rural Park of Frontera where you get to see the beautiful Laurel forest and stop at the church of La Candelaria which was built already in 1818. After this, we stop for a delicious lunch accompanied by Canarian wines where you have enough time to eat, relax and chat with your fellow companions.
Then we continue our way to the natural pools of La Maceta. If you’re brave enough, bring a towel and jump in the refreshing waters of the pool. The next stop is in a little village by the sea which is home to the world’s smallest hotel called Punta Grande. With just 4 rooms, the hotel can be found in the Guinness Book of Records.
The last stop of the day is Mirador de La Peña which lies 700m above sea level and is designed by the esteemed Canarian architect César Manrique. Walk around in the beautiful gardens, enjoy nature and take a look at the restaurant with the most stunning views over the island. Inside the restaurant, you have a chance to buy some souvenirs or grab a quick coffee.
Finally, we will head towards the port where the ferry will be waiting for us after spending an amazing day in El Hierro. You will be back in your hotel by 20.30.

Last year during our holiday we did the La Gomera tour. And this year we wanted to do El Hierro, so we went last Wednesday and it was wonderful! There was a very nice tour guide along, and in my opinion this tour is even more stunning than La Gomera!

The ferry crossing was a bit rough on the day we went and we felt ill for most of the way. When we had recovered on dry land we loved the island. Very pretty and compact with some stunning views.

Wanted for my wife and me to go on an Island and have a lovely time together. This excursion gave me just that. After picking us up, they took us to the El Hierro Island and greeted us well. They then showed us around the Island. The best part was the beautiful scenery which allowed us to capture many beautiful photos.

Even though I heard a lot about el Hierro, the trip was not as I expected. The journey was amazing and we saw some beautiful places on our way but the trip made us really tired in the end and there were not many stops which kind of made it uncomfortable.
