The rental setup was not reliable enough. Too many guests ran into problems on the road, and when things went wrong we ended up compensating people out of our own pocket because the rental side would not. That is not a service we are willing to keep selling.

Quad Hire Tenerife, The Honest Version Nobody Else Writes
If you are searching for quad hire in Tenerife, this page will not sell you one. It will tell you what renting a quad here actually involves, why it goes wrong more often than people expect, and what most visitors should do instead. We ran this product for a long time, so this is from experience rather than opinion.
Short version: self-drive quad rental in the Canary Islands is a niche thing for a reason. A guided quad tour gets you the same views with none of the trouble.
Should You Hire A Quad In Tenerife? Probably Not.
This is the part most rental pages leave out, so here it is straight.
🚫 Five things to know before you rent a quad here
1. It is not a common thing to do. Quad rental is a small niche in the Canary Islands, and there is a reason for that. Most visitors who think they want it actually want a guided tour.
2. The authorities are not keen on it. Quads on public roads attract attention, and rules on where you can drive and park are enforced. Fines and towing happen, and they land on you.
3. Off-road is illegal. Tracks, trails, forest paths and dunes are all off limits, and protected areas are taken seriously here. If a quad rental company hints that you can go off-road, walk away.
4. The island is harder on a quad than people expect. Long climbs in heat, high altitude near Teide, cold and ice in winter, and strong wind on exposed roads. Quads overheat, lose power and stop. That is usually driver error, not sabotage, but you are the one stuck on a mountain road.
5. When something goes wrong, you are on your own. A rental partner is not an emergency rescue service. Break down far away or late at night and you may wait a long time, and a mechanical problem rarely means a refund from anybody.
None of that means quad hire is impossible. It means it suits confident, experienced drivers who understand the rules and accept the risk, and almost nobody else. If you are on holiday for a week and want a fun afternoon on a quad, you are not in that group, and that is completely fine.
What To Book Instead, Available Right Now
Here is the thing people miss: a guided quad tour gives you the same roads, the same views and the same machine, with none of the admin. No licence deposit, no 100€ security hold, no worrying about where you can park, no route planning, and a guide who knows the island in front of you. It usually costs less than a day's rental too.

The Rules For Quads On Tenerife Roads
If you rent a quad here, from anyone, these are the rules. They do not change by company.
- Public asphalt roads only, including the official roads up to Teide National Park and mountain villages like Masca.
- No off-road. Tracks, trails, fields, forest paths and dunes are all forbidden, and protected areas are enforced.
- Motorways are a bad idea. The TF-1 is legal in places but genuinely unpleasant on a quad, especially with wind, traffic or at night.
- A polno veljavno vozniško dovoljenje.. Provisional licences, learner permits and photos of a licence are not accepted anywhere.
- Potniki iz age 12, riding behind an adult driver.
- Not suitable during pregnancy, and not wheelchair accessible.
- A security deposit at pickup, typically around 100€ per quad, held against fines, towing and misuse.
- Fines for illegal parking and off-road driving come out of that deposit. This is not a scare story, it is the main reason the deposit exists.
- Gorivo je Gasolina 95, and the quad is normally returned with a full tank.
- Long climbs in summer heat are hard on the engine. Take breaks.
- Winter near Teide means cold, and sometimes snow and ice. Turn back rather than push on.
- No alcohol, no phone in your hand, no stunts. Obvious, and still the cause of most incidents.

We sold quad hire for years, so this is not us guessing. Most people who booked it would have had a better day on a guided tour, and a fair number of them told us so afterwards.
The pattern was always the same. Someone rents a quad for a full day, drives a long way in the heat, takes few breaks, and then the quad struggles on a climb. Late-night message, stranded on a mountain road, holiday afternoon gone. Add the parking fines and the security deposit arguments, and it stopped being worth it for anyone.
So we stopped. The rental side would not stand behind its own service, we were paying compensation out of our own pocket, and we are not interested in selling something we have to apologise for.
If you want to ride a quad in Tenerife, take a voden ogled. Same roads, same views, same machine, and somebody else carries the risk. That is not us upselling, it is genuinely the better product.
