Meet at Los Cristianos harbour at 07:45, cross on the fast ferry, and spend the day with an official local guide: the colonial old town of Santa Cruz de La Palma, the Tajogaite volcano from the 2021 eruption, the famous viewpoints, lunch at a local restaurant and a stop at the island's sanctuary before the ferry home around 19:30. Fridays run in English, German and Spanish; Wednesdays in Spanish only, and we tell you that before you book, not after.

Before You Book The Day Trip

Which Day

Friday is the simple answer for international guests: Spanish, English and German guides on board. Wednesday runs in Spanish. If neither fits your holiday dates, message us before you book and we tell you what is possible.

Getting To The Port

You make your own way to Los Cristianos harbour, ten minutes from most hotels in the south. Parking is easy at that hour and taxis are cheap. Staying in Puerto de la Cruz? A pickup can be added on the product page.

Want To Stay Longer

La Palma rewards a few nights. If you fly in or take the ferry with a car, the private stargazing night below is the thing to book first, and the taxi tour, the snorkel and the bikes fill the days.

Staying On La Palma? Six Things We Do Here

Start with the stars, because La Palma is the king of stargazing. Then the island by taxi, the clear water at Los Cancajos with a snorkel or a tank, and the trails on a serious bike. Everything below is bookable with a deposit and a real person on WhatsApp.

Groups & Companies

The stargazing night takes up to thirty people on one booking, and bigger groups get a custom setup. Company retreats and incentive trips go through our team building division.

A Day In Tenerife

Staying on La Palma and want Teide, Siam Park or a whale trip? Most of our Tenerife experiences pick up in the south, and the ferry and the flight both land close to it.

What To See In La Palma

The steepest island in the world for its size, a crater in the middle, a ridge of volcanoes down the south, and green on every side. Our La Palma map shows where it all is; here is where the days should go.

TaivasRoque de los Muchachos

The top of the island at 2,426 metres, above the clouds, home to one of the biggest observatory sites on Earth. Day visits for the view, nights for the telescope. Read our Roque de los Muchachos guide before you drive up.

The CraterCaldera de Taburiente

A national park inside an eight kilometre wide crater, pine forest on the walls, streams on the floor, waterfalls that run orange with iron. The island's great walk, and a viewpoint for everyone else.

TulivuoriTajogaite, 2021

The eruption that made the news for 85 days and buried villages in the Aridane valley. The new cone and the lava fields are visited with easy walking, and every guided day includes them.

PääkaupunkiSanta Cruz de La Palma

A colonial harbour town that never got big: wooden balconies over the sea, churches from the fifteen hundreds, a cobbled main street. The ferry and the cruise ships land right in it.

LänsiLos Llanos & Tazacorte

The sunny side. Banana plantations to the sea, a black sand beach, the harbour where the dolphin boats leave, and the best sunsets on the island.

PohjoinenLos Tilos & The Laurel Forest

UNESCO biosphere, a laurel forest with springs and tunnels of water, and the Cubo de la Galga trail that feels like another continent. Cool, green, quiet.

Is La Palma Worth Visiting?

If you want big resorts and nightlife, no. If you want the greenest, steepest, quietest of the Canary Islands, with a volcano that is still warm and the darkest sky in Europe, yes, and it is the island most people wish they had given more days. One day from Tenerife shows you the old town, the volcano and the viewpoints. Three or four days let you walk the crater, see the west coast, and spend a night at a telescope, which is the thing nobody forgets.

Why Book La Palma With Club Canary?

Club Canary is a licensed local tour platform from Costa Adeje, on six islands, and stargazing is the thing we have sold longest and best. On La Palma we sell what we have checked ourselves, six experiences and counting, we say "coming" when it is coming instead of inventing it, and every booking carries real prices with taxes included, a Best Price Guarantee and a real person on WhatsApp every day from 08:00 to 22:00.

Getting To La Palma

By Ferry From Los Cristianos

The fast ferry sails from Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma in about two and a half hours, cars welcome, passport or ID card needed. The day trip above includes the ticket.

By Plane

Short flights from Tenerife North and Gran Canaria land at Santa Cruz de La Palma airport in around half an hour. The easiest way for a stay of a few nights.

Cruise Ships

Ships dock in Santa Cruz de La Palma, a short walk from the old town. See the cruise block below.

Getting Around

A rental car is the answer on La Palma. The roads are good but steep and slow; count on an hour from the capital to the west coast and ninety minutes to the top. No car? Message us, a private driver is the usual fix.

Sää

Two islands in one: the east side gets the cloud and the green, the west side gets the sun. The top is cold at night even in summer, bring a real jacket for stargazing.

The Night Sky

La Palma has a light pollution law and a Starlight Reserve. New moon weeks are darkest; the week around full moon is better for the moon itself than for galaxies. Ask us if you are not sure which you are getting.

Coming Soon On La Palma

We would rather tell you what is being built than pretend it exists. Six La Palma experiences went live this month; these are the next ones we are arranging with operators on the island.

Guided Caldera de Taburiente Hike

The crater walk with a local guide, transport to the trailhead and the pickup at the bottom sorted.

Observatory Day Visit

Roque de los Muchachos by daylight, inside the telescope domes, with the drive up arranged.

Dolphins & Whales From Tazacorte

A small boat from the west coast harbour into the dolphin water, the sunset version included.

Shared Stargazing Night

A small group version of the telescope night for couples and solo travellers who do not need the whole telescope to themselves.

Arriving On A Cruise Ship?

Ships dock in Santa Cruz de La Palma, and three of the experiences above are built for a port day: the private taxi tour meets you at the port, and the guided snorkel ja Kokeile sukeltamista are ten minutes away by taxi, with a morning start that leaves the afternoon for the old town. Send us your ship's arrival and departure times when you book and we confirm the timing, or tell you honestly if it does not fit. More ports on the same cruise? See our Canary Islands cruise excursions.

Stargazing Spoiler

The private telescope night is live today, and it is the thing nobody forgets. Next on the list: a shared small group version for couples and solo travellers, and a stargazing plus dinner evening on the west coast. Message us if you want to be told when either goes live.

La Palma: Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get about La Palma from Tenerife visitors and from guests staying on the island.

Can I visit La Palma in one day from Tenerife?

Kyllä. Tenerife to La Palma day trip leaves Los Cristianos harbour on the fast ferry in the morning and brings you back the same evening, with a guided coach day, the old town of Santa Cruz de La Palma, the volcano from the 2021 eruption, the viewpoints and lunch all in one ticket. It runs on Wednesdays and Fridays; Fridays have English and German guides, Wednesdays are in Spanish. Bring your passport or ID card, the ferry checks it.

What is the best thing to do in La Palma?

Stargazing. La Palma protects its night sky by law, the observatories at Roque de los Muchachos sit at 2,400 metres above the clouds, and the yksityinen tähtitarkkailuretki puts your group alone at a professional telescope with a real astronomer. After that: the Caldera de Taburiente crater, the Tajogaite volcano, the colonial old town of Santa Cruz and the banana coast around Tazacorte. Our La Palma map shows where everything is.

Is La Palma good for stargazing?

It is the best island in the Canaries for it, and one of the best places in the world. La Palma has a light pollution law, a Starlight Reserve, very stable air and viewpoints above the cloud layer, which is why the big telescopes were built here. Club Canary sells stargazing on four islands and La Palma is the one we call the king. Read our Roque de los Muchachos guide for the drive up, the day visits and what to wear.

Can you visit the Roque de los Muchachos observatory?

By day, the viewpoint at the top is open to everyone with a car, and guided visits inside the observatory site run on certain days; we are arranging a day visit with transport, see the coming soon section on this page. At night, the observatory itself is closed, which is why the yksityinen tähtitarkkailuretki meets outside at the museum car park with its own professional telescope. Dress warm; it is over 2,400 metres and cold even in summer.

Is it safe to visit La Palma after the volcano?

Yes. The eruption of 2021 ended after 85 days, and the island has been open and welcoming visitors since. The new volcano and the lava fields in the Aridane valley are now one of the main sights, visited with easy walking on marked paths, and every guided day includes them. Tourism is one of the ways the valley rebuilds, so visiting helps.

Do I need a car in La Palma?

If you stay on the island, a car helps, but it is no longer a must. La Palma is steep and the roads are slow: about an hour from the capital to the west coast, ninety minutes to the top. Without a car, the private taxi tour shows you the volcanoes or the green north in three or five hours, the stargazing night works with a taxi that waits, and the snorkel and dive centre is a short taxi ride from Santa Cruz. On the day trip from Tenerife you need nothing; the coach does the driving.

Can cruise ship passengers in Santa Cruz de La Palma book a tour?

Yes. Ships dock a short walk from the old town, and three of our experiences are built for a port day: the private taxi tour meets you at the port for three or five hours, and the guided snorkel ja Kokeile sukeltamista are ten minutes away by taxi with a morning start. Send us your ship's arrival and departure times when you book and we confirm the timing, or tell you honestly if it does not fit.

Why book La Palma with Club Canary?

Because we are a licensed local tour platform from Costa Adeje, on six islands, and we only sell what we have checked ourselves. Real prices with taxes included, a Best Price Guarantee, registered bookings, and a real person on WhatsApp every day from 08:00 to 22:00. La Palma is an island we are building: what is bookable is on this page, what is coming is marked as coming, and operators on the island who want to work with us are welcome to contact us.
