Try Scuba Diving In Gran Canaria
This is a discover scuba diving experience, the simplest way to try scuba diving in Gran Canaria without any licence or training. You do not need experience, and it does not lead to a certificate, it is about the feeling of breathing underwater and seeing the reef for the first time, safely and with a professional at your side the whole way. If you have ever been curious about diving, this is where to start.
It all happens at Puerto de Mogán, one of the prettiest corners of Gran Canaria, with an easy shore dive straight from a calm, sheltered beach. No long boat ride, no deep water, just a gentle introduction to the underwater world.
For easy, beginner Gran Canaria diving, this is the place to start. It is the try dive Gran Canaria first-timers ask us for most, and a gentle, safe way into the sport.
Is This For Beginners?
Yes, completely. This try dive is built for first-timers who have never dived before. Your instructor teaches you the few basics you need, you practise them in shallow water until you feel comfortable, and only then do you head into open water together, always at your pace. You are never alone and never rushed.
The one thing to be clear on: this is a try dive, not a course. It does not give you a diving certificate. If you catch the bug and want to get certified, your instructor can tell you about the PADI Open Water Diver course as a next step.
How The Try Dive Works
- 1Meet At The Dive Centre
You meet at Delphinus Diving Centre in Puerto de Mogán, fill in a short medical form, and get fitted with your equipment.
- 2Learn The Basics
Your instructor explains a few simple safety skills, and you practise them in shallow water until you feel ready.
- 3Into The Sea
Together with your instructor, you head into the water from the beach and begin your dive, calmly and slowly.
- 4Explore The Reef
You spend about 45 minutes underwater, down to around 9 to 10 metres, watching the reef and its marine life go by.
- 5De vuelta a la costa
You come back to the beach, get changed, and if you like, grab your optional photos and videos as a keepsake.
Mogán House Reef, Your Dive Site
Your dive takes place at Mogán House Reef, a friendly beginner site right in Puerto de Mogán. You enter from a sandy beach that is protected by a wavebreak, so the water is calm and the entry and exit are usually easy, even when the weather is not perfect. It is an easy site, but not a boring one, with plenty to see once you are under. The beach itself has restaurants and shops, so anyone not diving has a nice spot to wait.
What Marine Life Can You See?
Every dive is different, and wildlife is never guaranteed, but the reef is full of life. On a good day you may see trumpet fish, salemas, octopus, moray eels, wrasses, groupers and barracuda, and now and then something bigger like an angel shark, or more rarely a ray. Whatever turns up, you always keep a respectful distance, the rule underwater is simple: look, do not touch, chase or feed.

La Opinión Sincera de Club Canary
Hablando en serio de su equipo local en las Islas Canarias
Breathing underwater for the first time is a real moment, and this try dive is the easiest, safest way to do it in Gran Canaria. No licence, no course, no pressure, just a patient instructor, a calm beach in Puerto de Mogán, and a reef with plenty to see. For a first dive, it is hard to beat.
Dos cosas honestas. Es un try dive of about 45 minutes, not a diving course, so you leave without a certificate, if that is what you want, ask about the PADI course instead. And if you feel anxious underwater and stop early, that is completely normal and your instructor will look after you, but there is no refund for a dive cut short, so book it when you feel ready.
If you are curious about diving and want a safe, friendly first go, this is the one.
