Do I need kayaking experience?

No, this tour is rated beginner level. The guide runs a short briefing at the start of the day, and the kayaks are stable double kayaks that are easy to handle. If you can swim and you are in reasonable shape, you will manage this tour with no problem.

Is kayaking in Gran Canaria safe?

Yes, as long as you go with a licensed guide who knows the coast. Mojo Picón Aventura is a licensed local team who have run this route for years and know the wind, tides and safe route for the day. You get a life jacket, and the guide adapts the route to sea conditions.

How long does the kayak tour last?

The activity itself lasts about 3 to 4 hours on the water, from 09:30 to around 14:00. Add a short briefing at the start and time for the picnic, and you are looking at roughly half a day.

Can kids join the kayak tour?

Yes, children aged 12 and over can join, as long as a parent or guardian is with them. Kids share a double kayak with an adult. For families with younger children, message us and we will see what we can arrange.

What will we see on the tour?

The route goes along the south west coast of Gran Canaria, past volcanic cliffs, into sea caves you can only reach by kayak, and stops at a few hidden coves. There are also archaeological sites along the coast. If sea conditions allow, there is time for snorkeling with masks that are included.

Is snorkeling included in the kayak tour?

Yes, snorkel masks are included and the guide stops at a spot with clear water for snorkeling, when sea conditions allow. It is not the main focus of the tour, but a nice extra.

When can you do the kayak tour in Gran Canaria?

The tour runs year-round, on Mondays. Only strong wind or rough sea stops it, in which case we reschedule or refund. If you need another day for a group booking, message us and we will see what we can arrange.

Where does the kayak tour start?

The tour meets at Playa de El Pajar, on the south west coast of Gran Canaria, close to Arguineguín. The full meeting point and Google Maps link are sent in your booking confirmation.

Je zahrnutý hotelový odvoz z hotela?

Yes, hotel pickup is free if you are staying in the south of Gran Canaria, including Puerto Rico, Amadores, Mogán, Taurito, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas and Meloneras. Pickup is around 09:00 and the exact time is confirmed the day before. If you are staying outside the south, you make your own way to the meeting point at Playa de El Pajar.

What should I wear for kayaking?

Wear swimwear under normal clothes, since you will get a bit wet from the kayaking. Bring a cap or hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a towel for after. Water shoes or old trainers are useful for getting in and out of the kayak on rocky beaches.
