Read This First, So You Book The Right Thing
This is the part most companies leave out. We would rather you know exactly what you are buying, because this experience suits a lot of people very well and a few people not at all. Six honest points.
📍 1. Where The Night Actually Happens
The sunset and the picnic normally take place at a viewpoint on the western slope above Guía de Isora, usually the Mirador de Chirche. It looks out over the ocean and the west coast and it is a beautiful spot, but it is well below the summit of Teide and it is not above the cloud layer.
After dark the guide moves the group higher for the telescope session, normally inside Teide Nemzeti Park. If road access, wind or cloud make that a poor idea on your night, the whole evening stays at the lower viewpoint. The guide decides on the night, and he picks the clearest sky rather than the highest number.
So do not book this expecting a fixed altitude. If standing at 2,000 metres is the thing you want, tell us before booking and we will be straight with you about whether this is the right trip.
🕑 2. The Timing Moves
Pickup follows the sunset and it shifts through the year. Your time is confirmed by email, but mountain evenings do not run to a train timetable: traffic, an earlier group, or a change of plan for the weather can push things later.
Your guide sends his live location by WhatsApp on the way to you, so you can see where he is instead of standing in a lobby wondering. Keep the number you gave us reachable on the day.
If a delay means the sunset is tight, the guide will say so rather than pretend. Please plan a loose evening around this rather than a fixed dinner reservation afterwards.
🚐 3. The Vehicle Is Built For This, Not A Limousine

On a good night: the Moon in real detail, one or two planets, star clusters and constellations, and the Milky Way when the season and the moon phase allow. On a bright moon night you will see less, because the moon washes out everything faint. That is astronomy, not a shortcut.
A realistic session is a handful of objects looked at properly, with your guide explaining each one, rather than a long list rushed through. If you have something specific you want to see, ask when you book and we will tell you whether it is up that month.
⛅ 5. The Night Runs In Ordinary Conditions Too
This is worth understanding. Your guide goes out on most nights, not only on perfect ones. Some haze, passing cloud, a breeze or a bright moon are normal mountain conditions and the night still goes ahead. His job on those nights is to move to wherever the sky is clearest and make a good evening out of what is available, which is exactly what he does.
A cancellation and refund is for conditions that are genuinely unsuitable or unsafe, such as heavy cloud across the whole island, strong wind or closed roads. It is not offered because a night turned out less clear than another night. If it were, the trip would run about four times a month and nobody could book it.
If your night is looking marginal, the guide will tell you honestly what to expect before you set off, and you can decide together. We would far rather have that conversation at 17:00 than at a viewpoint in the dark.

The Food, Completely Honestly
The Sunset Edition includes a picnic, and here is exactly what that means. The stop is an outdoor viewpoint. There is no restaurant, no kitchen and no cooking allowed, that needs licences nobody has on a mountain. So your guide brings Canarian tapas bought from local shops: cheeses, cured meats, bread, olives, fruit and sweets, with wine, cava, beer and soft drinks. He sets it up on a folding table while the sun goes down.
🧀 Please Set Your Expectations Properly
It is a picnic rather than a dinner, but nobody goes hungry, there is plenty of it. What it is not is fine dining: nothing is heated, there are no plated courses and there is no table service. The food is bought in rather than prepared by a chef, it is served on a folding table outdoors, and the seating is simple.
For most guests that is exactly right: a relaxed picnic outdoors with a wide ocean view while the sky changes colour. If you are used to high-end restaurants and want that standard, read the box below, because we can arrange it.
Prefer to keep it simple? Eat something beforehand or plan a late dinner after, the Sunset Edition is back around 22:45. And if you are particular about your wine, bring your own bottle, the guide will not mind at all.

Where exactly does the private stargazing tour go?
The sunset and the picnic normally take place at a viewpoint on the western slope above Guía de Isora, looking out over the ocean. It is a beautiful spot, and Club Canary will be straight with you: it is well below the summit of Teide and not above the cloud layer. After dark the guide moves the group higher for the telescope session, normally inside Teide National Park. If wind, cloud or road access make that a poor choice on your night, the whole evening stays at the lower viewpoint instead. No fixed altitude or route is promised, because the guide picks the clearest sky rather than the highest number. If standing at a specific altitude is the thing you want, tell us before booking and we will say honestly whether this is the right trip.
What kind of vehicle is used on the private stargazing tour?
A Volkswagen Transporter van, kept in good order and set up for exactly this kind of night: room for your group, the telescopes and all the picnic gear, high seating with a proper view out, and no trouble at all on the mountain roads. For the evening it is yours and nobody else's. Club Canary just wants the word "private" to mean the right thing: the van carries your group alone, rather than being a chauffeur-driven luxury car. It is a practical, comfortable vehicle built for mountain nights, which is genuinely what this trip needs. If the vehicle itself is a big part of what you expect for the price, message us before booking and we will talk it through.
What will we actually see through the telescopes?
On a good night: the Moon in real detail, one or two planets, star clusters and constellations, and the Milky Way when the season and the moon phase allow. On a bright moon night you will see less, because the moon washes out anything faint, and that is astronomy rather than a shortcut. A realistic session is a handful of objects looked at properly with your guide explaining each one, not a long list rushed through. If there is something specific you are hoping to see, ask Club Canary when you book and we will tell you whether it is up that month.
Is the picnic a proper dinner?
It is a picnic rather than a dinner, but nobody goes hungry, there is plenty of it. The Sunset Edition includes Canarian tapas from local shops: cheeses, cured meats, bread, olives, fruit and sweets, with wine, cava, beer and soft drinks, set up outdoors while the sun goes down. Club Canary will be clear about the limits: nothing is heated, there are no plated courses and there is no table service, because there is no kitchen on a mountain and cooking is not allowed up there. For most guests that is exactly right, a relaxed picnic outdoors with a wide view while the sky changes colour. If you are used to fine dining and want that standard, see the next question, because we can arrange it. If you are particular about your wine, bring your own bottle, the guide will not mind at all.
Can we upgrade the food to something more special?
Yes, and this is the right question to ask if you have fine dining in mind. Club Canary works with specialist catering companies and high-end picnic set-up companies in Tenerife who can build something considerably more elaborate: proper table settings, a styled picnic, a curated menu, better wine, the lot. It is arranged separately from the standard booking and it does add a meaningful amount to the budget, so it only makes sense for special occasions like a proposal, an anniversary or a milestone birthday. Location And Route
- The sunset and picnic normally take place at a viewpoint on the western slope above Guía de Isora. The telescope session normally moves higher, usually into Teide National Park.
- No specific altitude, viewpoint or route is guaranteed. The guide selects the location on the night based on cloud, wind and road access, always choosing the clearest sky available.
- If conditions make the higher location unsuitable, the full evening takes place at the lower viewpoint. This is not grounds for a refund.

- Pickup times follow the sunset and change through the year. Your time is confirmed by email.
- Mountain evenings can be affected by traffic, weather decisions or an earlier group. Reasonable delays are possible and are not grounds for a refund.
- Your guide sends his live WhatsApp location on the way. Please keep the number you provided reachable.

- The Sunset Edition picnic is a selection of Canarian tapas and drinks bought from local shops and served outdoors. It is a light picnic, not a restaurant dinner, no cooking takes place and no table service is provided. No refunds are given for the style, presentation or quantity of the picnic.

- The experience runs in a normal range of mountain conditions. Haze, passing cloud, wind or a bright moon do not cancel the night, and the guide moves to wherever the sky is clearest on the evening.
- A cancellation applies only where conditions are genuinely unsuitable or unsafe, for example heavy cloud across the island, strong wind or closed roads. In that case you are notified in advance and offered a reschedule or a full refund, whichever you prefer.

Raising A Problem
- If something is not right during the experience, please tell your guide at the time. Most things can be fixed on the spot and cannot be fixed afterwards.
- On the day, communicate directly with your guide about timing or delays.
- Club Canary is the booking agent and is not present during the activity. For anything after the night, write to office@clubcanary.com and we will look into it properly.

This is a lovely night and the reviews say so. Two private editions, good telescopes, a guide people genuinely warm to, and zero strangers. The Late Night Edition is about the most romantic thing you can do in Tenerife after dinner, and after midnight the sky up there is as dark as it gets.
Now the part we insist on saying out loud, because this is a serious amount of money. A piknik az egy piknik. There is plenty of it and nobody goes hungry, but nothing is heated and there is no table service. The van is a well kept VW Transporter, private and built for the mountain, not a chauffeur-driven car. The sunset stop is on the western slope, lower down, not at the summit and not above the clouds. The timing moves, so keep your evening loose. And your guide is a warm, chatty, hugely experienced local rather than a professor in a white coat.
For most people that combination is exactly the night they wanted. For a few it is not, and those few should know beforehand rather than at a viewpoint in the dark. If you are expecting a chauffeur and a plated dinner at altitude, tell us first: the food can be upgraded through specialist caterers for an extra cost, and we would rather arrange that properly than have you disappointed.
