Learn To Dive In La Palma, Properly

Most people get their licence on a holiday because the water at home is cold and green. La Palma is the opposite: a young volcanic island with no sand to cloud the sea, so visibility is often twenty metres or more, and the east coast at Los Cancajos is sheltered and calm. The dive centre is a PADI instructor development centre, the level above a normal dive school, and it keeps the groups at four students per instructor. Many schools take eight. Before You Arrive

The theory, online, in your language, about 8 to 12 hours at your own pace. Finish it at home and arrive with the knowledge review done.

Jour 1
Skills In Calm Water

Breathing, mask clearing, buoyancy, what to do if something goes wrong. Shallow, patient, until it feels normal. Then your first open water dive.

Day 2 & [DAYS]
Open Water Dives & Certification

Three more open water dives on the reef, gradually down to 18 metres, with the skills repeated in real conditions. Final check, and you are a certified diver.

Who This Course Is For

Your course runs from the dive centre in Los Cancajos, the small resort on the east coast of La Palma, ten minutes from Santa Cruz and the airport. The entry points are from the shore, the reef starts close in, and the water is warm enough for a wetsuit all year. Between dives, the beach is right there. Stay a few extra days: the private stargazing night at Roque de los Muchachos is the perfect last evening once the no-fly window is done, and the rest of the island is on our La Palma experiences page et La Palma map.

Theory Before You Arrive
  • After booking you get access to PADI eLearning. Do it at home before the holiday, it takes around 8 to 12 hours, and your days on La Palma are all in the water.
  • The theory is available in 25+ languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish and Russian. Tell us your language when you book.
Exigences et sécurité

  • You need basic swimming skills: a 200 metre swim at your own pace and 10 minutes floating, which is part of the course.
  • You must be medically fit to dive. Please read the official Déclaration médicale PADI before booking; some answers need a doctor's signature.
  • Pregnant guests should not dive. The calmer option is the guided snorkel.

En bref : cancel early and it is free. Cancel late or do not show up, and you pay the full price. The dive centre reserves your instructor, your gear and your place, and charges us for it either way, so the deposit alone never covers a late cancellation.

Annulation

  • Annulation gratuite jusqu'à 48 heures before your start time, or 72 heures for groups of 5 or more, by emailing office@clubcanary.com. Votre dépôt vous sera intégralement remboursé.
  • 24 à 48 heures before: you lose your full deposit. No exceptions.
  • 12 à 24 heures before: you lose your deposit and pay 60% of the remaining balance. Nous vous envoyons un lien de paiement.

  • PADI eLearning already activated is not refundable. Once the course has started, no refunds are possible; if you stop early, the instructor can issue a referral so you finish the open water dives elsewhere.

La Seule Exception

  • A real doctor or hospital paper that says you cannot take part, dated before the activity or the same morning. It covers the person named on it, not the whole group. Feeling unwell without it is not enough for a refund. We know this is strict, and it is the only way we can protect against last-minute cancellations.

Weather & Sea

  • Sea conditions may move a dive to another day or another site. The instructor decides, and the dive centre and Club Canary coordinate the new plan with you. If the course cannot be completed because of the sea, you get a referral for the remaining dives.

Medical & Conduct

  • You must be medically fit to dive per the PADI Medical Statement. If a doctor's signature is needed and not provided, the course cannot start and the deposit is not refunded. Check with us before you book if you are unsure.
  • Students who ignore safety instructions may be refused continuation without a refund.
