Tenerife lets us kayak pretty much all year, and most days it is glorious. But this is open ocean, so conditions change with wind and swell, and in winter or on a windy day you can feel chilly, especially when you climb out after the snorkel. If you feel the cold easily, check the forecast before you book and pick a warmer day. We would rather tell you now than have you find out in January.

Is kayaking in Tenerife suitable for beginners?

Where does the kayak trip start?

Do we kayak the whole time?
No. About 1.5 hours is paddling along the coast towards Palm-Mar. Then the kayaks gather in a calm spot for a 30 minute snorkel stop, and you paddle back. About 2 hours in total.
Will I definitely see dolphins or turtles?
No. These are wild animals in the open Atlantic and nobody can book them. Turtles are seen on many trips near Palm-Mar, which is why we snorkel there, and dolphins pass by regularly and sometimes come closer to the kayaks by themselves. Nobody chases them. You watch, and they decide. No refund is given for not seeing animals.
What can I see while snorkeling?
Atlantic fish over volcanic rock, in clear water, on nearly every trip. Sea turtles are a real possibility at Palm-Mar but never guaranteed. It is the ocean, not an aquarium, so keep your eyes open and leave the checklist at home.
Is this suitable if I am not a strong swimmer?
You need to be comfortable in open water. You wear a life jacket and a guide stays close, but the snorkel stop is 30 minutes in the sea, not a pool. Can I do the kayak tour with children?

Yes, and a cheap and cheerful one. You share a kayak, you snorkel side by side, and the stop near Palm-Mar has a way of turning into a little date. It is not a luxury cruise, but it is a memory you will talk about.
