Excursion en VTT de Descente à El Teide
When you think of mountain biking in Tenerife, you might picture people racing down wild forest trails, chasing speed and taking on big challenges. That kind of extreme downhill biking is not offered to tourists here, mostly due to the risks. Instead, this guided downhill bike tour gives you a fun and safe way to explore the Teide National Park. You'll enjoy a smooth ride from the volcano down to the sea on paved roads. It's not extreme, there's no off-road riding, and the bikes are simple.
Downhill Bike Tour Tenerife, Step By Step
Forget the effort of cycling up the mountain in the heat. Instead you coast down without pedalling, from the volcano all the way to the sea. This guided bike tour needs little effort and suits all ages from eight up and every fitness level. You do not need to be super fit. This is the relaxed, scenic way to enjoy the mountain. Here is how the day goes, from pick-up to the coast.
Free Hotel Pick-Up, Then Uphill By Minivan
Pick-up is included from hotels in the south of Tenerife: Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos. You do not cycle uphill. A minivan drives you up into the Parc National Teide while the bikes travel on a trailer. Staying outside these areas? Message us and we will help, or meet us at an easy pick-up point. Pick-up is usually between 13:00 and 14:00, and the exact time is confirmed after you book.

Easy start: Sit back during the scenic transfer. The uphill part is done by minivan, not by bike.
Arrival And Getting Ready
The minivan reaches the mountain starting area at around 2,180 meters. The team unloads the bikes from the trailer and gives you one that fits. Your guide checks the setup and explains the main safety rules before you roll. The open volcanic setting feels a world away from the coastal resorts.

Time to get ready: The team unloads the bikes, checks the setup and prepares everyone for the descent.
The Las Lajas Stop
The group stops at the Las Lajas recreational area, surrounded by Canarian pine forest. This is the main rest and preparation stop before the ride. There are picnic tables, and this is normally the best toilet stop of the day. Food and drinks are not included, so bring your own snack and water. Later stops are shorter and may not have toilets.

Bring a snack: Las Lajas is the main preparation and toilet stop. Food is not included, so bring anything you want to eat.
The Ride Begins
Once everyone is rested and briefed, the descent starts. The first kilometres run high through Canarian pine forest and are some of the most scenic of the whole tour. On a clear day you may ride near or above the clouds. The route stays on paved mountain roads, not off-road. Follow the briefing, control your speed and keep a safe distance.

The ride begins: The first kilometres run through high pine forest with wide, open mountain views.
A Guide In Front, Support Behind
The guide rides at the front, sets the pace and gives directions at junctions. They also help manage traffic when needed. A support van follows the whole group with bags, spare equipment and replacement bikes. If a rider gets tired or has a problem, help is close by. Keeping a little distance between riders makes the descent more comfortable.

Supported all the way: Follow the guide while the backup van stays behind the group with spare gear and bikes.
Short Scenic Stops
The route has several short stops, usually about five or six minutes each. They are for photos, views, regrouping and quick equipment checks. Spare bikes travel with the tour, so a bike problem can often be swapped in minutes instead of causing a long wait. These are quick sightseeing stops, not long meal breaks.

Quick scenic stops: Take a few photos and enjoy the view while the team keeps spare bikes ready if needed.
Through Traditional Mountain Villages
As you descend, the scenery changes from pine forest to traditional towns and mountain villages, with cobbled streets, small churches and local views. You are given a helmet, gloves and a yellow high-visibility vest. The yellow item is a visibility vest, not a life jacket. Wear closed shoes and long sports trousers for comfort and a little protection. In winter or at altitude, bring a hoodie or light jacket, the top is cooler than the coast.

Sightseeing on two wheels: The route passes through real villages as the landscape shifts from mountain forest to the warmer south.
Finish Near Los Cristianos
The ride finishes in the warmer coastal area near Los Cristianos, where the volcano and forest give way to towns and ocean views. You hand back the bike, the team loads it onto the trailer, and you are driven back to your hotel or agreed drop-off point. Nobody cycles back uphill. It is a simple one-way journey from the mountain to the sea, about 39 km in total.

Easy finish: Reach the coast, hand back the bike and relax on the return transfer to your hotel or pick-up point.
