This is the part most people do not know, so read it before you compare prices with anything else.
Under new environmental restrictions in the south of Lanzarote, this operator is authorised to take a maximum of 3 vehicles out at a time. One is the guide. The other two carry guests. Each quad takes two people, so four guests is the legal maximum on every departure.
That is not a company choosing to run small groups. It is the permit. Nobody is adding a fifth quad next season, and no operator can put fifteen machines through this landscape anymore.
So what you get is closer to a private guided ride than a quad excursion. In the guide's own words, the aim is "direct contact with every single participant, and getting into the story of this place, respecting how fragile it is."
The practical catch: two guest quads, four departures a day, closed Sundays. That is the entire supply. If your date shows free, take it.
Why Only Four Guests, Ever
The south of Lanzarote is a protected volcanic landscape, and it is genuinely fragile. Lava fields that look solid take centuries to recover from damage, and the island has been tightening the rules on motor vehicles crossing them.
Under those new environmental restrictions, this operator is authorised to take out a maximum of three vehicles at a time. One carries the guide. The other two carry guests. Two people per quad, so four guests, every single departure, permanently.
This changes what the tour actually is. A fifteen-quad convoy is crowd management: you ride in a line, eat the dust of the person in front, and wait at every junction while the group regroups. With four guests and one guide, there is no convoy to manage. The guide rides with you, stops when it suits your group, and actually talks to you about what you are looking at.
The operator put it better than we can. The point, in their words, is to have direct contact with every participant and to get into the story of this unique place while respecting its fragility. That is a very different ambition from moving as many machines as possible through the lava.
It also means supply is genuinely tiny. Four departures a day, two guest quads each, closed on Sundays. In high season this sells out days ahead, and we would rather tell you now than have you try your luck on the morning.
What The 90 Minutes Look Like
You meet at the shop in Playa Blanca, get a short briefing on the automatic quad and the safety rules, put on a helmet with dust goggles, and head out. The route runs through the volcanic landscape of the southern end of the island, with panoramic stops over the coast where you can actually get off and take photos properly.
The quads are automatic, so if you can drive a car you can drive one of these. No experience needed. The guide leads the route and sets the pace, which on a small group means the pace is roughly whatever suits you.
Be realistic about one thing: off-road routes are hard on machines, so these quads are working vehicles rather than showroom pieces. They are maintained, insured and safe, and that is what matters.

The Price, Clearly
You pay per quad, not per person. One quad carries a driver and, if you want, a passenger. So two people sharing a quad pay the same as one person riding alone.

Departure Times
Four departures a day, and the operator is closed on Sundays.
The 16:00 slot is the one to grab if you want the better light over the volcanic landscape, and in summer it is the most comfortable temperature too. It also goes first.
Who Drives, Who Rides?
To drive you need a valid category B car driving licence and to be 18 or over. Bring the physical licence, not a photo of it. If two people on the same quad both hold a licence, you can swap during the tour.
Automatic-only licence? That is fine. The quads are automatic, so the code 78 restriction common on UK licences is not a problem. Motorcycle licence but no car licence? Sorry, that does not qualify, but you are very welcome to ride as a passenger while someone with a car licence drives.
Not sure if your licence qualifies? Send us a photo on WhatsApp before you book and we confirm it with the operator. It takes a minute and saves the worst outcome, which is arriving and not being allowed to drive.
Passengers can join from 5 years old, so this works for families. The one hard limit is weight: 160 kg combined per quad. If two riders go over that, you need a second quad, which also means you are taking the whole fleet for that slot.

How long is the quad tour in Lanzarote, and what does it cost?
The tour is 90 minutes and costs 100€ per quad, not per person. One quad carries up to 2 people, so a couple sharing works out at 50€ each.
You reserve through Club Canary with a 25€ deposit per quad and pay the remaining 75€ at the shop in Playa Blanca, in cash or by card. Booking two quads is 200€ in total, with a 50€ deposit and 150€ on the day.

How many people are on the tour?
Four, maximum. On every single departure.
That is not a marketing promise, it is simply how many quads there are. The operator runs two quads, and each one carries two people. So when you book, you are taking half or all of the fleet for that time slot.
It means no convoy, no riding in someone else's dust, and no queue at the photo stops. It also means availability is genuinely tight, so book ahead rather than hoping on the day.
What time does the quad tour leave, and which days?
There are four departures a day: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. The operator is closed on Sundays.
The 16:00 slot is the pick if you want better light over the volcanic landscape, and in summer it is the most comfortable temperature. It is also the one that books out first.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your departure time.
Do I need a licence to drive a quad in Lanzarote?
Yes. To drive you need a valid category B car driving licence and you must be 18 or over. Bring the physical licence on the day, not a photo of it.
Passengers do not need a licence and can join from 5 years old. If two people on the same quad both hold a licence, you can swap driver during the tour.
Is the price per person or per quad?
Per quad. One quad costs 100€ whether one person rides it or two.
So two people sharing a quad pay 50€ each. A group of four across two quads is 200€ in total, which is also 50€ each. Riding solo on your own quad costs the full 100€, because you have the whole machine to yourself.
The maximum per quad is 2 people and 160 kg combined. If two riders go over that limit, a second quad is needed.
Where does the tour start and where does it go?
It starts and finishes at the shop in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote. The exact address and directions come on your Club Canary ticket.

I have never driven a quad. Is it difficult?
No. The quads are automatic, so if you can drive a car you can drive one of these. You get a briefing on the controls and the safety rules before you set off.
With only four people on the tour, the guide sets a pace that suits your group rather than managing a convoy. If you want to take it gently, that is completely fine.
Be realistic about one thing: off-road routes are hard on machines, so these are working quads rather than showroom pieces. They are maintained, insured and safe, which is what matters.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear closed shoes and clothes that can get dusty. No flip-flops.
Bring your Club Canary ticket, your physical driving licence if you are driving, sun protection, and cash or a card for the balance at the shop.
A helmet with dust goggles is provided. The tour is not recommended during pregnancy.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation or reschedule up to 48 hours before your departure time. Email office@clubcanary.com or message the Club Canary team on WhatsApp, and your deposit comes back in full.
After that it gets strict, and here is exactly what applies per quad:
- 24 to 48 hours before: you lose your deposit, nothing further is charged.
- 12 to 24 hours before: you lose your deposit and pay 50€ per quad.
- Under 12 hours, a no-show, or arriving too late: you lose your deposit and pay the full remaining balance of the booking you made.
The reason is capacity. Environmental rules allow only two guest quads per departure, so one booking is half of that entire time slot and we turn other guests away. A quad left empty a few hours before cannot be resold.
If the guide decides conditions are unsafe, you reschedule free of charge or get a refund.
Can I drive with an automatic-only licence?
Yes. The quads are automatic, so an automatic-only licence (the code 78 restriction common on UK licences) is accepted. You still need a full category B car licence, not a provisional one.
If your licence looks unusual in any way, send Club Canary a photo of it before you book and we will confirm it with the operator. Much better than finding out at the meeting point.
Booking And Cancellation Policy
Deposit And Payment
- You reserve with a 25€ deposit per quad, which counts toward your total.
- The balance is paid at the shop before the tour, in cash or by card.
- No security deposit is taken.
Your Free Cancellation Window
- Free cancellation or reschedule up to 48 hours before your departure time, by email to office@clubcanary.com. Your deposit comes back in full.
After Your Free Window Closes
- 24 to 48 hours before: you lose your deposit. Nothing further is charged.
- 12 to 24 hours before: you lose your deposit and pay 50€ per quad. We send you a payment link.
- Less than 12 hours before, a no-show, or arriving too late for your departure: you lose your deposit and pay the full remaining balance of the booking you made. We send you a payment link.
Why It Is Strict
- Environmental rules allow only two guest quads per departure. When you book one, that is half of the entire capacity for that time slot, and we turn other guests away.
- A quad reserved for you and left empty cannot be resold a few hours before, so the deposit alone can never cover a late cancellation.
- The only exception is a genuine doctor or hospital letter dated before the tour or the same morning. Forgetting your licence, arriving late or changing your mind are not exceptions. We know it is strict, and it is the only way we can protect such small capacity.
Licence And Age
- A valid category B car licence and a minimum age of 18 are required to drive. Bring the physical licence.
- Arriving without it means you cannot drive, and no refund applies.
- Passengers from 5 years old.
Weight And Capacity
- Maximum 2 people and 160 kg combined per quad.
- If two riders exceed the limit, a second quad is needed. With only two guest quads allowed per departure, please tell us in advance.
Conduct And Safety
- Follow the guide's instructions at all times. Dangerous driving, using phones while riding or reckless behaviour can mean removal from the tour without refund.
- Damage caused by negligent riding can be charged to the rider.
- Guests arriving intoxicated are refused without refund.
- Basic insurance is included.
Weather
- The tour runs in most weather. If the guide decides conditions are unsafe, you reschedule free of charge or receive a refund.
- Choosing not to go because of personal weather preference follows the normal cancellation terms.

Here is the thing that makes this one different, and it took us three weeks of asking to get it out of the operator, because they talk about the landscape rather than about selling.
New environmental rules in the south of Lanzarote let them take out three vehicles. Total. One guide, two guest quads. Four people, every departure, and that is the permit rather than a company decision.
We have sold plenty of big quad convoys, so we know exactly what that is worth. On a ten or fifteen quad tour you spend ninety minutes in someone else's dust, waiting at junctions while the group catches up. Here it is four of you, one guide, and a lava landscape that nobody else is allowed to crowd.
At 100€ per quad that is 50€ each for a couple. Not the cheapest quad ride on the island and we will not pretend otherwise. But the cheap ones are a different product entirely, and after these rules came in, several of them simply cannot run this landscape the way they used to.
The catch is supply. Two guest quads, four departures, closed Sundays. There is almost nothing to sell. If your date is showing as free, book it, because checking back tomorrow usually means it is gone.
Whatever slot is free, take it. Two guest quads a departure is not much to go round.
