The Buggy Safari Storytold by Club Canary
Red and black Maverick X3 off-road buggy parked on the volcanic coast of Lanzarote
The Machine

Morning or early afternoon start, about three hours.

A Maverick X3 Turbo buggy safari from the Puerto Calero area in Lanzarote: 173 horsepower, two seats, you drive. Built for couples and thrill seekers, not for sightseeing.

Orange and black Maverick X3 Turbo buggy with oversized tyres in a rocky Lanzarote landscape
Why Club Canary

We tell you what is dirt and what is road.

Club Canary books the buggy, helmet and insurance, and says it straight: about 60 percent road and 40 percent off-road, because the volcanoes of Lanzarote are protected. Optional pickup from the south.

Three off-road buggies on a dusty track beside the black volcanic coast of Lanzarote
The Route

Roads, then dirt, then roads again.

Country tracks around Puerto Calero, Tías, Masdache and La Asomada, in a small guided convoy. A 25 minute break at a karting track halfway, drinks on you.

Driver view from inside a buggy following another buggy on a paved road through volcanic hills
The Honest Part

Not three solid hours of dirt.

Lanzarote has no endless desert and nobody drives off-road in Timanfaya. The dirt sections run through the countryside, linked by scenic roads like this one.

Two off-road buggies on a dirt track along the black lava coast of Lanzarote
The Dirt

The off-road part is real.

Dirt tracks along the lava coast and through the fields, one buggy behind the other. This is the 40 percent you came for.

Two buggies crossing a sandy volcanic plain in Lanzarote with a long dust cloud behind
The Dust

Eat the dust.

Open plains, your tyres throwing clouds behind you. Bring sunglasses and a scarf, you will want both.

The View

From the passenger seat.

Open cabin, roll cage and the coastline right there through the side. This is what your co-pilot sees while you drive.

Convoy of off-road buggies lined up across a volcanic landscape in Lanzarote
The Convoy

A local guide, a line of buggies.

Driver swaps are allowed when both hold a car licence, and passengers ride from age seven. Groups of three buggies or more get a better price.

Two muddy off-road buggies stopped in front of a red volcanic mountain in Lanzarote
The Red Mountain

Red earth, black rock, muddy tyres.

A stop at the foot of a red volcano, one of the best photos of the day. You look and shoot, you do not drive up, the mountain stays protected.

Lanzarote Buggy Safari, The Maverick X3 Turbo Off-Road Experience

This is the fast one. Drive a Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo, 173 horsepower and one of the most powerful buggies on the island, across dusty dirt tracks and open volcanic countryside. Road sections to get you there, then real off-road where you feel the speed and the dust. Two seats, so grab your partner or a friend and take turns at the wheel. About 3 hours of it, from 230€ per buggy.

This is the off-road, action side of Lanzarote. Want the relaxed scenic drive to the volcanoes and vineyards instead? That is our sightseeing tour, we split them into two so it is clear which is which.

Why Book Your Lanzarote Buggy Safari With Club Canary

Most sites bury this in a wall of confusing product names. We keep it simple. This is the powerful X3 Turbo off-road safari, the fast, dusty one. Pick it, see exactly what you get, and book in a minute.

Book online with a small deposit and pay the balance to the guide on the day. Best Price Guarantee, so you never pay more, and a real local team on WhatsApp if you have any questions.

From 230€ per buggy. 2 seats, swap drivers on the way. Optional hotel pickup from 5€ per person.

💡 We split our Lanzarote buggy tours into two clear pages. This page is the off-road X3 Turbo safari, fast, dusty and full of action. Want the relaxed scenic drive to Timanfaya and La Geria instead? See our Lanzarote Timanfaya Buggy Tour. Both are run by the same trusted local team, so some of our reviews are from guests across both trips.

Feel The Power, Eat The Dust

This is the tour for people who want action, not a gentle sightseeing drive. You get behind the wheel of a Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo, a proper high-performance buggy with 173 horsepower, and follow a guide across the wild, dusty side of Lanzarote. There are smooth road sections to link it together, then real off-road dirt tracks where the buggy comes alive. Expect dust, expect speed, and expect to come back grinning.

The buggy has 2 seats, so bring your partner or a friend and swap the driving during the tour. It is automatic and easy to handle, with a full safety briefing before you set off, so you do not need any off-road experience. Just bring some energy and clothes you do not mind getting dusty.

The Route

Where The Off-Road Safari Goes

You drive a mix of roads and off-road dirt tracks through the countryside around Puerto Calero, Tías, San Bartolomé, Masdache and La Asomada, with a break halfway. The exact route can shift with conditions, but this is what a typical safari looks like.

Start & Briefing

Check-in near Yaiza, a safety briefing and how to handle the X3 Turbo. Depart 09:30 or 13:15.

Road Sections

Smooth stretches through Puerto Calero, Tías and San Bartolomé to link the off-road parts together.

Off-Road Dirt Tracks

The fun part. Dusty countryside trails around Montaña Blanca, Masdache and La Asomada where the buggy really moves.

Gran Karting Stop

A 25-minute break for the toilet, a rest and a snack or drink if you want (food and drink not included).

Photo Stops

One or two short stops in the countryside for pictures and a chat with the guide.

Back To Base

Return to the meeting point, dusty and buzzing, after about 3 hours.

Honest note on the terrain: it is roughly 60% road and 40% off-road, because there are not endless dirt tracks on Lanzarote and many are in protected areas that cannot be used. The off-road sections are through open countryside, not the volcanoes, which are national park and off-limits to any vehicle. It is still a proper dusty, fun ride, just do not expect three straight hours of dirt. Routes can also shift for local events like the Ironman or the Roméria de Los Dolores.
The Lanzarote buggy safari is a guided off-road drive in a Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo, a 173 horsepower 2-seat performance buggy. It runs a mix of roads and dusty off-road dirt tracks through the countryside around Puerto Calero, Tías, Masdache and La Asomada, with a 25-minute stop at Gran Karting. It is roughly 60% road and 40% off-road, lasts about 3 hours and costs from 230€ per buggy. Drivers must be 21 or over with a licence held 2 or more years, and passengers can join from age 7. Departures run at 09:30 or 13:15 from near Yaiza, with free parking and optional hotel pickup.

The Maverick X3 Turbo, One Of The Most Powerful Buggies On The Island

You drive the Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo, a 173 horsepower off-road machine built for exactly this kind of terrain. Wide stance, big off-road tyres, proper suspension, and enough power to make the dirt tracks a real thrill. It has 2 seats, so you and your partner or friend swap the driving during the tour. It is automatic, so no clutch or gears, and you get a full briefing and practice first. No off-road experience needed, just respect the guide and the machine does the rest.

Bring sunglasses or a face cover. The Turbo is fast and the off-road sections are dusty, so goggles are provided and a bandana or buff (buyable on site) keeps the dust off your face. Do not wear good clothes, you will get dirty, and that is the whole point.
📱 Looking for the Maverick Trail instead? We showcase the powerful X3 Turbo here, but the operator also runs the lighter, more affordable Maverick Trail buggy on request. Message us and we will book it for you: Maverick Trail 2 hours, from 130€ or Maverick Trail 3 hours, from 170€.

🌋 Prefer The Scenic Drive Instead?

This is the fast, dusty off-road safari. If what you want is a relaxed drive to see the volcanoes, the Timanfaya area and the La Geria vineyards on smooth roads, that is our separate sightseeing tour, in a comfortable buggy that seats up to 4. Two very different days out, both brilliant. Can't decide? Do both, one for the views and one for the adventure.

Perfect For Couples And Thrill Seekers

The X3 Turbo is a 2-seat buggy, so it is made for couples and pairs of friends who want a thrill together. One drives, one rides, then you swap. It is a favourite for people who have done a gentle buggy tour before and want something with real power this time. Booking a few buggies for a group of friends? We can arrange several together, just message us with your group size, or email events@clubcanary.com for group and company bookings.

Lanzarote Buggy Safari, Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people ask us most about the off-road X3 Turbo safari. Still unsure? Message our local team on WhatsApp, we help fast.

What buggy do I drive on the Lanzarote buggy safari?

You drive a Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo, a 173 horsepower off-road buggy and one of the most powerful on the island. It has 2 seats, so you and your partner or friend can swap the driving during the tour. It is automatic, with big off-road tyres and proper suspension, built exactly for the dusty dirt tracks on this safari. No off-road experience is needed, you get a full safety briefing first.

Is the buggy safari really off-road, or mostly on the road?

It is a genuine mix of both, roughly 60% road and 40% off-road by driving time. Here is the honest reason: Lanzarote does not have endless dirt tracks, and the volcanoes are protected national park where no vehicle can drive off-road. So you get smooth road sections to link it together, then real dusty off-road trails through the countryside. It is a proper fun, dusty ride, just not three solid hours of dirt.

Will I get dusty on the safari?

Yes, and that is the whole point. The off-road sections are dusty and the X3 Turbo is fast, so you will get dirty. Safety goggles are included, and we recommend a bandana or buff for your face, which you can buy on site. Do not wear good clothes, come in something you do not mind getting covered in dust. You will come back grinning.

How many people fit in the buggy, and can children come?

The Maverick X3 Turbo has 2 seats, so it is one driver and one passenger, ideal for a couple or two friends who want to take turns. Children can join as passengers from age 7. Booking for a group? The price is per buggy, so a group of friends simply books several buggies together. Message us with your group size and we will arrange it.

What are the driver and licence requirements?

To drive you need an original driving licence, either a physical card, or a digital licence such as Gov.uk or DGT plus your physical passport or ID. A photo or copy alone is not accepted. Drivers must be 21 or over with a licence held for at least 2 years. No alcohol or drugs before driving. Passengers, including children from age 7, do not need a licence.

Where does the safari go?

You drive a mix of roads and off-road dirt tracks through the countryside around Puerto Calero, Tías, San Bartolomé, Montaña Blanca, Masdache and La Asomada, with a 25-minute stop at Gran Karting for the toilet and a rest. The exact route can shift a little with conditions or local events, but the guide always keeps it a fun, dusty ride. This safari does not go to Timanfaya, that is our separate scenic sightseeing tour.

Where does the tour start, and is hotel pickup available?

The meeting point is near the camel and horse-riding centre by Yaiza, with free parking, and you should arrive at least 10 minutes before departure. Optional round-trip hotel pickup and drop-off is 5€ per person, paid on arrival, from Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Puerto Calero. When you book, enter your hotel name, not an address, or the nearest hotel if you are in an Airbnb.

What is included, and are the photos free?

Included: your guided Maverick X3 Turbo, a local guide, the safety briefing, safety goggles, a child booster seat when needed, fuel, and full insurance with no security deposit. The guide also takes photos on your own phone, so your photos are free. Not included: food and drinks at the Gran Karting stop, and a bandana or buff, which you can buy on site.

Can I book the cheaper Maverick Trail buggy instead?

On this page we showcase the powerful X3 Turbo, but the operator also runs the lighter, more affordable Maverick Trail buggy on request. The Maverick Trail is from 130€ for the 2 hour tour and from 170€ for the 3 hour tour. It is not on the online calendar, so just message us on WhatsApp and we will book it for you manually. Tell us which one you want and your preferred date.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel for free up to 48 hours before, or 4 days before for 4 or more buggies. After that: cancel 24 to 48 hours before and you lose the deposit only; cancel 12 to 24 hours before and you lose the deposit plus 60€ per buggy; cancel under 12 hours before, no-show or arrive too late and you lose the deposit and still pay 90% of the balance, because the buggy and guide are reserved for you. The only exception is a same-day doctor letter, which only covers the person who is ill, not the whole group.

Booking And Cancellation Policy
In short: Cancel more than 48 hours before and it is completely free. The closer you cancel to the start, the more you pay, because the buggy and guide are reserved and paid for your group either way. Cancel last minute or do not show up, and you pay almost the full price.

Deposit & Payment

  • You reserve with a small deposit online and pay the balance on the day at the base, cash or card. The deposit is part of the total price.
  • All buggies are fully insured, with no security deposit required.

Your Free Cancellation Window

  • 1 to 3 buggies: cancel or reschedule for free up to 48 hours before the tour.
  • 4 or more buggies: free up to 96 hours (4 days) before, because a bigger group is harder to refill.
  • Cancellations go by email to office@clubcanary.com.

After Your Free Window Closes

  • Between 24 and 48 hours before: you lose the full deposit. You pay nothing more.
  • Between 12 and 24 hours before: you lose the full deposit, plus a fee of 60€ per booked buggy. We send a payment link.
  • Less than 12 hours before, a no-show, or arriving too late: you lose the full deposit and still pay 90% of the arrival balance. Only the 10% for fuel you will not use is waived. We send a payment link.
  • The buggy and guide are reserved and paid for your group either way, so the deposit alone can never cover a late cancellation.

No Excuses, With One Exception

  • Traffic, an accident on the way, a missed pickup or simply running late are your own responsibility. No refund is given for these.
  • The only exception is a genuine doctor or hospital letter, dated the same day, stating that the person cannot take part in the activity.
  • Important: a doctor letter only covers that one person, not the whole group. For example, if four of you booked two buggies and one person is genuinely ill, at most one buggy may be adjusted, and even that depends on the situation. One sick person does not cancel the whole group's booking.

Driving Requirements

  • Each driver needs an original driving licence (a physical card, or a digital licence plus physical passport or ID). Drivers must be 21+ with a licence held at least 2 years.
  • No alcohol or drugs before driving. Anyone unfit to drive safely may be refused, with no refund.

Weather & Safety

  • If the tour is cancelled by the operator for unsafe weather, you are offered a new date or a full refund. You never lose money when the operator cancels.
By booking a buggy tour with Club Canary, you agree to these conditions. Please check you meet the driving requirements before booking. These rules keep every tour safe, fair and running smoothly. If something genuinely goes wrong, talk to us and we will always try to find a fair solution.

Club Canary's Honest Take

Real talk from your local team in the Canary Islands

If you want power and dust, this is the one. The X3 Turbo has 173 horsepower and it feels it on the dirt tracks, way more of a thrill than a standard buggy. Two seats, so you and your partner take turns, and you come back covered in dust with a big grin. It is the fun, fast side of Lanzarote.

Here is the honest bit so there are no surprises: it is about 60% road and 40% off-road. Lanzarote simply does not have endless dirt tracks, and the volcanoes are protected national park where nobody can drive off-road. So it is a real dusty ride, just not three solid hours of dirt. If you would rather see the volcanoes and vineyards on a relaxed scenic drive, that is our Timanfaya sightseeing tour.
