What is the water temperature in Tenerife for diving?
The water temperature in Tenerife varies from 18-25°C (64-77°F) throughout the year, being warmer in the summer and cooler during the winter months.
What is the visibility like when diving in Tenerife?
Visibility while diving in Tenerife typically ranges from 15-30 meters, depending on the specific location and conditions.
What types of marine life can I see while diving in Tenerife?
When diving in Tenerife, you can see a wide variety of marine life! Expect colorful reef fish, rays, octopuses, moray eels, and barracudas, especially during boat dives. One of the big highlights is spotting turtles, and there’s honestly about a 50% chance of seeing them on these trips (no joke!). The reef where we dive is known for frequent turtle visits, making it an amazing experience for beginners and nature lovers alike.
Do I need a diving license to dive in Tenerife?
For the ‘Tenerife try dive,’ no diving license is required, as you’ll dive with a dive master. However, to dive independently, a recognized diving certification is necessary.
Are there age restrictions for diving in Tenerife?
Divers must be at least 8 years old to join. If you’re over 65, you can usually still dive with us, but we ask that you check with Club Canary first before booking so we can make sure everything is safe and suitable for you.
What are the best dive sites in Tenerife?
Tenerife has great dive sites like Palm Mar, Abades, El Puertito, Los Chuchos, the Cathedral, and the Stingray Cave, each with its own special underwater scenery. However, this try dive for beginners leaves from Puerto Colón, the main harbor that’s easy to reach from Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas. From there, you go by boat to a really nice reef that’s probably the best spot for beginners who want to see fish and maybe even turtles. It’s not the absolute easiest because it’s a boat dive (not from the shore), but it’s definitely the most fun and exciting choice for first-timers.
What gear should I bring for diving in Tenerife?
Club Canary provides all necessary diving equipment. However, if you have your own wetsuit, fins, and mask, bringing them can add comfort and familiarity to your dive.
When is the best time of year to dive in Tenerife?
Summer months (June-August) are ideal for diving in Tenerife due to warmer waters and stable weather, but diving excursions are available year-round.
What is a ‘Beginner’s Dive’ in Tenerife?
The ‘Beginner’s Dive’ is a ‘try dive’ for first-timers, where no license is required. You will dive up to 8 meters deep with an instructor, experiencing underwater breathing and marine life observation.

If you’re looking for certified dives with only other certified divers, we can also help set that up, but please note we don’t list those options on the website because the schedule changes every week. Feel free to reach out to us for details!

What is the best place for booking diving in Tenerife?
Club Canary is one of the best choices in Tenerife, especially for try dives for people without a diving license. With Club Canary, you go straight by boat to a fun reef spot where you have a good chance to see fish and even turtles.
However, you do need to have basic swimming skills and feel comfortable in the water. If you’re very nervous or can’t swim well, then Club Canary’s boat dive might not be the best choice. In that case, you might prefer an easier pool dive or a gentler shore dive that stays close to the beach.
But if you want to really try diving in the ocean and see something special, Club Canary is the perfect choice!

This is for anyone who’s always been curious about diving but never got round to it. You don’t need a course. You don’t need a week of prep. You show up, get briefed, get on a boat, and go see what’s actually down there.
The turtle sighting rate is real, around 50%. That’s not a guarantee, but it’s genuinely good odds. We’ve run this trip hundreds of times and the reef delivers. The instructors here are calm, experienced, and used to nervous first-timers. You’ll feel comfortable quickly.
If you want to try scuba diving in Tenerife for the first time, this is the one to book. Not a pool. Not a beach. A real reef.
