Let us answer the question we get every week: can you rent a boat without a captain in the Canary Islands and sail off on your own, like in Greece or Croatia? In practice, no. And we would rather explain why than let you waste days searching.

De economie is ook anders. Harbour spots in the tourist areas are expensive, so the boats based here are built to earn: daily trips, sometimes three or four per day in summer. Every boat already has a professional captain on the payroll, and owners want that captain on board for every charter so the boat comes back ready for tomorrow. The result: skippered charters everywhere, bareboat almost nowhere.

During and after COVID, something changed. Travellers suddenly wanted boats just for their own group, even small groups, and almost nobody on the islands offered that properly. Club Canary built the first real private boat trip selection in Tenerife, and it took off. Today plenty of websites copy the concept, which is fine, ideas spread. But the logistics, the fleet relationships and the daily experience took years to build, and that part does not copy so easily.

This is what we now arrange all the time: private trips for birthdays and proposals, wedding charters, company outings on the water, 50th celebrations with catering, bartenders, live music, jet skis alongside the boat, and stag and hen weekends with the boat in the middle of it.
