The Loop Most Cruises Sail

The most common seven night loop from Tenerife, the one MSC sails all winter: Fuerteventura, Madeira, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Palma and back. Other ships sail it the other way round or skip an island, and that is fine: every excursion below books on its own, for whichever ports you have.

Most of the sailing happens at night. Your daylight is for the islands, and that is where we come in.

Shore Excursions, Port By Port

One stop per port, in the order most cruises sail them. We only list what fits a port day and gets you back in time; Club Canary has hundreds more excursions on these islands, but they are too far from the cruise ports to promise that. Our pick on each stop is marked. Every card books on its own, with a deposit and a real person confirming your ship's timing first.

Stop 1

圣克鲁斯-德特内里费

Day one. The volcano is waiting, and it is bigger than you think.

The harbour: a working capital with a fine square, good shopping and a lot of offices. Nice for a walk. The volcano is ninety minutes away.

The island: Teide National Park above the clouds and the old town of La Laguna, in your own car from the port gates. Or the capital from the top deck.

Whale watching only when your port hours allow a full day, which is rare but happens. Loro Parque for groups now; a fixed departure for families is being built. The tourist bus is the easy, relaxed option: you see the capital, not the island, and it is busy on cruise days.

Stop 2

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Two islands in one: green towns in the north, desert dunes in the south. Pick a side.

The harbour: a big port in a big city, with a city beach and a shopping street ten minutes away. Most guests see the city and nothing else.

The island: the historic towns of Arucas and Teror and the Bandama crater, or Puerto de Mogán and the Maspalomas dunes. Your own driver from the terminal, or one of the sharpest aquariums in Europe five minutes from the ship.

The island day tour is a coach with pick-ups in the south; ask us before you book and we check the Las Palmas option for your date.

Stop 3

圣克鲁斯-德La Palma

The quiet one. A volcano that erupted in 2021, a crater you can look into, and water so clear you see your feet at ten metres.

The harbour: a pretty colonial town with wooden balconies, right at the pier. Lovely for an hour. The crater, the volcano and the clear water are beyond it.

The island: La Cumbrecita and the 2021 volcano by taxi, or the laurel forest and the natural pools of the north. Or the clearest water in the Canaries, ten minutes from the ship.

The bikes are for people who ride. Rental from the shop in town fits a port day; guided tours do not, unless your ship stays overnight.

Stop 4

Funchal, Madeira

The garden in the Atlantic, and not a Canary Island: Madeira is Portugal, 500 km north. We serve it for cruise guests on a Canary Islands cruise only, never on its own.

The harbour: the nicest harbour of the cruise, a garden city with a market and a cable car. Easy to spend the day in town and never see the mountains behind it.

The island: the Nuns' Valley by taxi from the ship, a private wine lodge tour a walk from the pier, or the coast from the top deck. For cruise guests calling at Funchal.

Stop 5

Arrecife, Lanzarote

Another planet. Fire mountains, black vineyards, cliffs at Famara, and a submarine if the clock allows.

The harbour: a small capital with a lagoon and a seafront walk. Nice for a coffee. The fire mountains are forty minutes away.

The island: Timanfaya, the La Geria vineyards, the Famara cliffs and the old capital of Teguise, in a small group 4x4 or a minivan for eight. Pick-up outside the cruise port when the ship's hours fit.

The jeep and the island tour are shared departures on fixed days. Tell us your ship's hours when you book; we confirm the port pick-up and the return time before the booking is final. The submarine is in Puerto Calero, a drive from Arrecife, and works on long port calls only.

Stop 6

Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura

A hundred beaches and nobody on them. The island tours here are gold and they book out, so the jeep safari is the smart plan B.

The harbour: a working port town with a promenade and sculptures. Honest truth: not much here. The dunes and the beaches are the island.

The island: the Corralejo dunes, the old capital of Betancuria and the west coast, with a driver who knows the quiet spots. Private or small group, both popular, both booked well ahead.

The island tours normally pick up at the resorts; for a cruise day we confirm the port pick-up and the return time with the driver before you pay the balance. The jeep safari already collects at the cruise port and runs several jeeps, so it has room when the island tours are full.

Read This First: The Islands Are Bigger Than You Think

Every year we get hundreds of emails from cruise guests who want to book one of our normal excursions from the capital. We have to say no, and this page is the honest reason why.

Why We Built This Page

The cruise ports are the capitals, and the capitals are not where the excursions start. From Santa Cruz de Tenerife the resorts in the south are up to two hours away, the traffic is heavy, and almost no operator will drive up to collect you. A whale boat in the south, a quad in the south, Siam Park: lovely, and not possible on a port day. So we selected what is possible from each port, timed it to the ship, and left the rest out on purpose.

What You Will And Will Not See

A port day shows you one side of one island. You will not see all of Tenerife in five hours, nobody can. What a private or small group island tour does is make the most of those hours: the places a coach cannot reach, a local who knows the quiet spots, and the story of the island told by someone who lives on it. A big bus shows you the ring road.

About the hop on hop off buses, honestly

They are relaxing and easy, and on a cruise day they are full of people from your ship. You drive around the city and the area near the port, and you see nothing of the island. Good if you have a plan, a museum, the market, a square, and want to get there without thinking. Nothing like an island tour. We list them because some people want exactly that, and we tell you what it is before you buy it.

Back On Board One Hour Early. Always.

We have organised excursions on these islands since 2019, and the last thing we ever want is a guest watching the ship leave. So every port day here follows the same rule.

One Hour, Minimum

Every tour is planned to have you back at the port at least one hour before the ship sails, earlier when we can. If a day looks amazing but the hours are tight, we shorten it or we do not recommend it for your cruise.

Why We Push Private

A bus breaks down, a road closes, there is an accident. With a private car we react in minutes: another car, another route, a taxi. With fifty people on a coach, nobody can. Flexibility is the safety feature.

Honest About Risk

Even with the best planning things can happen, with us or with the ship's own excursions: a breakdown, a blocked road, extreme weather, someone needing a doctor. We do everything reasonably possible to solve it, and we cannot promise protection against every situation outside our control. The buffer exists for exactly this.

Availability, Fitness, Hours

Some excursions depend on availability, some on your fitness, all on your ship's arrival and departure times. We say so on every page, and we check before we confirm.

You Found The Easy Way. Here Is Why.

Booking excursions for a cruise is normally a mess. Five ports, five companies, five chats, nobody who knows your ship. We built this page to end that.

Your Whole Cruise, Sorted In One Message

Tap the ports your ship calls at and send them to us. We reply with the plan for every port, what fits your hours, and one price for the lot. The complete cruise package is booked through us today, and will be bookable right here soon.

Send On WhatsApp Opens WhatsApp with your ports already written. Add your ship's name and dates, we do the rest. Prefer to book port by port? Every card above books on its own.

Groups, Clubs And Cruise Communities

Fifty friends from a forum, a company trip, a club, a family reunion at sea. This is the thing we do best, because we have the relations on every island.

One Plan For Every Port, One Group Rate

Send us your ship, your dates and your group size, and we come back with one plan for the whole itinerary: a private bus where a taxi is too small, a boat where a boat is better, lunch sorted, one invoice, one contact. Group rates on every island, and a person who knows your group by name at every port. WhatsApp 或 events@clubcanary.com.

Loro Parque From Santa Cruz

Not on this page as a product yet, because it needs a bus and enough people. For a group, we quote it today: tickets plus private transport from the harbour and back. A fixed departure for families and smaller groups is being built and will be announced here. If you want it for your date, ask; a group makes it happen.

How A Port Day Works

1Book the port

Tour, group size, date of your call. A small deposit holds the car.

2Send your ship

Ship name and all aboard time in the form. Not sure? We look it up.

3我们确认了

Start time, meeting spot, car description and a number for the day, within 24 hours.

4Walk off the ship

Your driver is where we said, at the port or just outside the gates.

5Your day

Your stops, your pace, planned backwards from your sailing time.

6Back with a buffer

Pay the rest on the day and walk back on board with time to spare.

Booking deadlines, changes, cancellation and risk

Book at least 48 hours ahead: drivers, port access and winery visits are arranged per booking. Ship arrives late or leaves early: message us as soon as you know and we move the plan where possible. Ship skips the port: your deposit comes back in full. You cancel: free up to 48 hours before, 72 hours for groups of five or more; after that the ladder on each product page applies. We say it before you book, not after. Unforeseen delays can happen on any excursion, booked anywhere: breakdowns, road closures, extreme weather, medical situations. We plan a buffer of at least one hour, we react with alternative transport where we can, and the booking conditions on each product page explain the responsibilities on both sides.

Madeira, a note on who we serve there

Club Canary is a Canary Islands company. Funchal is on nearly every Canary Islands itinerary, so we look after our cruise guests there with the same team and the same rules. We do not sell to visitors staying on Madeira, out of respect for the local companies that do.

After The Cruise: Come Back For A Week

Fell in love with one island? Good, that was the plan. On a port day we only list what fits the ship. With a week, you get the whole island, and Club Canary has hundreds of excursions waiting.

Cruise Excursions: Frequently Asked Questions

The questions cruise guests ask us most.

What are the best shore excursions in the Canary Islands?

The best Canary Islands shore excursions are the ones that leave the harbour behind. The cruise ports are the capitals, and the islands start thirty to ninety minutes further: Teide National Park above the clouds from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Bandama crater and the towns of the north from Las Palmas, the 2021 volcano and the crystal water of La Palma, the dunes and Betancuria on Fuerteventura, Timanfaya on Lanzarote, and the Nuns' Valley and the wine lodges in Funchal. Club Canary sells private tours and small group island tours at every port, timed to your ship. See them port by port on our Canary Islands cruise excursions page.

Can I book independent shore excursions in the Canary Islands instead of the ship's tours?

Yes. Independent shore excursions with a local company are normal in the Canary Islands, and the ship cannot stop you walking off. The difference is who you book with. Club Canary is a licensed local tour platform from the Canary Islands with an office in Costa Adeje, so you book every port in one place, with one contact on WhatsApp for the whole cruise, and every tour is planned around your ship's all aboard time. The ship's excursions are safe and simple; ours are private or small group, per car instead of per seat, and they show you the island rather than the ring road.

Will I be back on the ship on time with an independent excursion?

That is the rule everything here is built on. Every Club Canary cruise excursion is planned to have you back at the port at least one hour before the ship sails, earlier when possible, and your driver has your ship's name and all aboard time before you step off. We recommend private tours for cruise guests for exactly this reason: if a road closes or a vehicle breaks down, a private car can be replaced or rerouted in minutes, a coach with fifty people cannot. Unforeseen delays can happen on any excursion, booked anywhere; we build the buffer in and we do everything reasonably possible to solve a problem on the day, and we say honestly that we cannot promise protection against every situation outside our control.

What can I do in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on a cruise day?

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital, a working city with a fine square and good shopping, not the Tenerife of the brochures. The resorts and most excursions are up to two hours south, which is why we do not sell them to cruise guests. What works from the port: the private Teide and La Laguna tour, which collects you at the port gates and takes you into Teide National Park and the old town of La Laguna in about five hours, and the tourist bus for an easy day in the capital. Loro Parque is possible for groups with private transport from the harbour.

What are the best shore excursions in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

Gran Canaria is two islands in one, and from the cruise terminal in Las Palmas you can reach either side in a port day. The private taxi tour from Las Palmas runs a north route to the historic towns of Arucas and Teror and the Bandama crater in about three hours, or a south route to Puerto de Mogán, the Maspalomas lighthouse and the dunes in about five. Five minutes on foot from the port, the 海洋诗篇水族馆 is the easy option for families.

What is there to do in Santa Cruz de La Palma from a cruise ship?

La Palma is the quiet island, with the volcano that erupted in 2021, the Caldera de Taburiente crater and some of the clearest water in the Canaries. From the pier, the La Palma taxi tour takes up to four people to the volcano and the crater viewpoints, or to the laurel forest and the natural pools of the north, in three or five hours. Ten minutes away by taxi, the small group snorkel 和 尝试潜水 at Los Cancajos fit a port day with a morning start.

Does Club Canary offer excursions in Funchal, Madeira?

Yes, for cruise guests calling at Funchal as part of a Canary Islands cruise. Madeira is Portugal, not a Canary Island, and Club Canary is a Canary Islands company, so we do not sell to visitors staying on Madeira; we look after our cruise guests there with the same team and the same rules. In Funchal we offer the private taxi tour to the Nuns' Valley with pick-up at the ship, a private Madeira wine tasting a walk from the pier, and the sightseeing bus.

Are there cruise excursions in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura?

Fuerteventura, yes: the 私人岛屿之旅 和 小型团队海岛游 with a maximum of eight guests are among the most popular excursions we sell, and they are often booked far in advance, so reserve early and tell us your ship so we confirm the port pick-up. Lanzarote: a jeep safari and a private island tour from Arrecife, timed to the ship, are being finished right now; the submarine safari is possible when the port hours allow. Message us with your ship's times and we tell you what fits.

How does booking a cruise excursion with Club Canary work?

You book each port on our site with a small deposit and pay the rest on the day, to the driver or at the venue. In the booking form you give us your ship's name and all aboard time; we confirm availability and the start time within 24 hours, and send you the exact meeting spot, the vehicle description and a contact number for the day. Book at least 48 hours ahead, because drivers, port access and visits are arranged per booking. Want the whole cruise sorted at once? Send us your ports on WhatsApp and we reply with one plan for every port.

What happens if my ship skips a port or changes its hours?

If your ship cannot call at the port at all, your deposit comes back in full; it is written in the policy of every cruise excursion, not a promise in a chat. If the arrival or departure time changes, message us as soon as you know and we move the plan with the driver where possible. Your own cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the excursion, or 72 hours for groups of five or more; after that the conditions on each product page apply. We explain it before you book, not after.

Can Club Canary organise cruise excursions for a large group?

Yes, and it is the thing we do best. Cruise communities, clubs, companies and family reunions at sea send us their ship, their dates and their group size, and we come back with one plan for every port: private buses where a taxi is too small, a boat where a boat is better, group rates on every island, one invoice and one contact. Loro Parque from Santa Cruz de Tenerife with tickets and private transport from the harbour is quoted for groups today. Write to events@clubcanary.com or message us on WhatsApp.

Is a hop on hop off bus a good cruise excursion?

It is the easy, relaxed option, and we say honestly what it is: an open-top bus around the capital and the area near the port, busy on cruise days, with audio in your language. You see the city, not the island. It is a good choice if you have a plan, a museum, the market, a square, and want to get there without thinking. If you want to see Tenerife, Gran Canaria or La Palma, a private or small group island tour is a different day altogether. We sell both, and we tell you the difference before you buy.

Canary Islands Cruise Excursions

Fall In Love With The Islands. Then Come Back.

That is the plan, honestly. Show you the real Canary Islands on a port day, so you come back for a week, and tell your friends who we are.

Made with love by the Club Canary Team, Costa Adeje.
