Snorkeling is fun, but snorkeling with turtles? That’s next level! We want to be honest, we can’t promise you’ll see turtles 100% of the time, but based on many trips, there’s about a 50% chance you will. You’ll take a boat to a reef where turtles often come to feed. If you’ve ever dreamed of swimming with sea turtles in Tenerife, this is a fantastic way to try it.

If you’re staying outside these main tourist areas, like Los Gigantes or Las Galletas, pick-up is still possible but may cost a bit more. Make sure to book your pick-up early to guarantee availability.
Direct Meeting Point Instructions:
If you prefer to come directly to the diving school:
- Address: Ola Diving Center, Puerto Colón, Local 227, 38660 Costa Adeje, Tenerife.
- Parking: Paid parking available in the Puerto Colón area (prices may vary, usually around 1€ per hour).
- Navigation: Use Google Maps for precise directions to Puerto Colón and the Ola Diving Center.
Alternative Departure Location in Las Galletas
Attention: This is a popular excursion, and Puerto Colón is the busiest tourist harbor in Tenerife. When you book in advance, we can usually secure your spot here without any problems. However, if you book last minute, it may be full. In that case, we may recommend departing from the diving centre “Dive Spot Tenerife” in Las Galletas, which is operated by the same organization. Since Las Galletas is a quieter area, it often has more availability. The trip itself is the same, although you’ll visit a different snorkel location. The chances of seeing turtles are about the same. If you would prefer to depart from Las Galletas (for example, if you’re staying nearby), please mention this in the order notes.
Learn About the Turtles You’ll See in Tenerife
When you go snorkeling with turtles in Tenerife, you might see these amazing sea animals up close. Sea turtles are big and strong, with a hard shell on their back called a carapace. This shell is flat and covered in scales, and its color can be olive green, brown, or even yellowish-green.
Underneath, they have a lighter belly shell called the plastron, which is usually yellow or white. Turtles have a small pointed head and big front flippers that help them swim smoothly in the water. Their back flippers are strong and help them steer and paddle.
They also have a long tail and a sharp, hooked beak to help them find and eat their food. The turtles you’ll see while snorkeling in Tenerife are easy to recognize because of their special shape and big flippers. Watching them in the clear water is a really fun and unforgettable part of your Tenerife turtle safari adventure.

A Note from Club Canary
We like to keep it honest: Club Canary is great, but we don’t have any special deals with Poseidon. The chance of seeing turtles is good, but if they don’t show up, it’s not a scam. This is the Atlantic Ocean, not the Red Sea or a tropical reef full of colorful fish.
If no turtles are seen, you will often still spot other marine life, but it’s not the same as snorkeling in exotic waters. Most guests love this trip, especially friendly tourists from European countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the UK, France, Austria, and the Czech Republic, places where there aren’t many opportunities for snorkeling with turtles or tropical marine life at home. Travelers who come from destinations with famous snorkeling spots, like the Red Sea or Southeast Asia, can sometimes feel disappointed, which is why we explain the risks clearly before booking.
In the end, it’s your choice to book. We offer this trip with our partner because most people really enjoy it. Please stay respectful and enjoy the chance to see Tenerife’s wild nature.
Tenerife Snorkelling With Turtles
Join Club Canary for a fun boat snorkelling trip to see turtles in Tenerife! Unlike big group tours, our turtle safaris are small, with a maximum of 10 people. This means you get a more personal and respectful experience. You also have a good chance (about 50%) of seeing these amazing marine animals. Please note, this is the Atlantic Ocean, not the Red Sea. People who are used to snorkeling in very exotic places may need to adjust their expectations.
Swimming With Turtles Tenerife
Swimming with turtles in Tenerife is an amazing experience when done carefully. Our snorkelling trips are guided by a professional diving school, with the goal of seeing these beautiful wild turtles without disturbing them. The turtles often return daily to their favourite feeding spots.
To enjoy the trip fully, you should be a reasonably confident swimmer, and having some basic freediving skills can help you get closer. However, please understand there is no guarantee of seeing turtles. Most trips do encounter them, but not always.
Keeping It Real
It is still wildlife, and the instructor on the day will always do their best to make the experience as good as possible. For many guests, this is a wonderful trip, but reactions can sometimes be mixed: some people are very happy when they see turtles, while others feel disappointed and even call it a fraud if no turtles appear.
We want to be clear, we do not mislead people. The chance of seeing turtles is good on most trips, but it can never be promised. That being said, this trip probably has the highest success rate of all snorkelling trips available in Tenerife.
Turtle Watching in Tenerife
If you’re not great at diving, don’t worry! You can still see the turtles from the surface. They don’t dive very deep and usually come up every few minutes to breathe. Please remember never to touch them, as this can stress them out or harm them because of bacteria on our hands. For tips on how to swim responsibly with turtles, check out this helpful guide.

Where We Snorkel with Turtles in Tenerife
We snorkel at a nice reef near Puerto Colón harbour. It’s about a 20-minute boat ride to this special spot. This place is quiet and away from busy beaches. Here you can see not just turtles but also colourful fish and, if you’re lucky, rays. Turtles are the easiest to spot, but please remember sightings are not guaranteed.
Skilled Instructors
Club Canary works with Ola Diving Center in Puerto Colón. Their team includes experienced divers who love the sea and know it well. They’ll make sure you have the right gear and teach you how to snorkel safely and respectfully with sea animals.
Optional: Snorkel Trip from Las Galletas
The owners of Ola Diving Center also run Dive Spot Tenerife, a well-known dive centre in Las Galletas. Sometimes, if you book last minute or are staying nearby, our team might suggest starting your trip from Las Galletas instead. This could be because it’s closer for you or because the Puerto Colón trip is already full. It’s still a small-group boat snorkel trip, the chances of seeing turtles are about the same, and pick-up service can still be arranged if needed.
Turtle Watching in Tenerife: All Year Fun
You can see turtles in Tenerife all year round. The warm water and lots of food keep them close to the coast. On our trips, you have about a 50% chance of seeing them. Remember, they are wild animals, and we visit them without disturbing their life.
Even if you don’t see turtles, the snorkelling spot is full of other sea life like barracudas, needlefish, parrotfish, and bogas. Always keep an eye on the sea floor, you might spot rays swimming by!
Best Times to Go Snorkelling and Helpful Tips
The best time for snorkelling is early afternoon. Our trips usually start at 13:30, but times might change if the weather is bad. If this happens, Club Canary will contact you to make sure you have the best experience.
When snorkelling with turtles, watch them calmly and keep a safe distance. Never touch them. Book your trip with Club Canary in advance. You only pay a small down payment to reserve, and the rest on the day. Group discounts and pick-up service are also available. Club Canary’s snorkel trip is one of the most popular options because unlike many trips that go from the beach, this one takes you by boat to the best spots!
