Mount Teide Hike

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Tenerife as you climb Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak. More than a hike, this is a journey through volcanic landscapes that lead to unforgettable views atop Tenerife’s iconic volcano. Mount Teide is also the number one spot for stargazing in Tenerife, making it a popular destination for both day and night excursions. Every step you take is an adventure with nature, making this Mount Teide hike a must for outdoor enthusiasts.

Mount Teide Guided Hiking Tour

This guided hiking tour will take you to the majestic summit of Mount Teide, which is 3,715 meters high. As one of the most unique Tenerife excursions, it offers an incredible opportunity to explore nature and enjoy panoramic views that will leave a lasting impression. Experienced mountain guides will ensure your hike is both safe and informative.

Teide Hike Permit

Climbing to the top of Mount Teide is limited because it’s a protected area. Each day, only 200 people can get a permit to go up. Getting these permits is often tough because they’re in high demand. At Club Canary, we make this easier for you. When you book with us to hike or climb Teide, we take care of all the permit work. You won’t have to worry about the paperwork; we handle everything to make sure your trip is smooth and stress-free.

Important Weather Considerations

Mount Teide can be extremely cold in winter, with temperatures often dropping below zero. Snow is also common at the summit during the colder months, so proper preparation with warm clothing is essential.

Private Mount Teide Hike Options

At Club Canary, you can also book a private trip for a more personalized experience. Private tours are often available within the next 10 days and provide the flexibility of traveling only with your group and an official guide. There are two options:

Difficult Private Teide Hike

For seasoned hikers looking for a challenge, this hike starts at 2,300 meters and leads you to the peak of Mount Teide. The route covers a climb of about 1,500 meters and a descent of 170 meters, lasting approximately 5-6 hours.

Price:

  • Without Pick-up: 590€ (for 2 people) + 47.50€ per extra person (Meeting point at 08:45 at Montaña Blanca car park).
  • With Pick-up: 793€ (for 2 people) + 75.50€ per extra person.

You will need to be well-prepared, bringing your own food and drinks.

Easy Private Teide Hike

This option is similar to the regular group tour but with extra support and flexibility, as it’s just for your group. You will have more availability for photos and personalized attention, with fewer people booking in advance compared to the group tour.

Price:

  • Without Pick-up: 480€ (for 2 people) + 100€ per extra person.
  • With Pick-up: 683€ (for 2 people) + 135€ per extra person.

This option includes everything the regular hike offers, including the cable car tickets, the “Science and Legend” exhibition tickets, and the necessary permit. It’s a great option for those who want a more private and tailored Teide experience.

New Teide Hiking Regulations in 2025

Starting in 2025, new regulations have been implemented to preserve the stunning beauty of Teide National Park. Authorities, including the Civil Guard’s Special Mountain Rescue Intervention Group (GREIM) and the Tenerife Fire and Rescue Consortium, have set specific guidelines for hikers.

If you plan to join the difficult private Teide hike, be prepared for random checks at designated checkpoints. To ensure your safety and compliance, you are required to carry the following equipment:

  • Appropriate mountain footwear
  • Warm clothing
  • Thermal blanket
  • Sufficient water
  • A fully charged mobile phone
  • A headlamp or flashlight

You Don’t Have All the Equipment?

Hikers without the required essentials will be denied access. It’s your responsibility to come fully equipped. In case you have all the necessary items (mountain footwear, warm clothing, thermal blanket, sufficient water, etc.), please bring them with you. If you’re missing anything, such as a thermal blanket or flashlight, let us know in the order note. Normally, the guide has extra supplies. Climbing Teide and hiking Mount Teide are amazing experiences, and we want to make sure you’re fully prepared for the adventure!

Book Your Mount Teide Hike Early

Due to the limited number of permits available each day (only 200), we recommend booking your hike far in advance—at least 30 days ahead. If you’re late to book and permits are no longer available, don’t worry—Club Canary offers an incredible alternative:

Teide Night Hike

For those who want to explore Teide sooner, a nighttime hike to watch the sunrise is a unique and unforgettable adventure.

  • Start Time: The hike typically begins around midnight to ensure you reach the summit by sunrise.
  • Experience: Watching the sunrise from Spain’s highest peak provides breathtaking views of the island and ocean.
  • No Permit Needed at Night: You don’t need a permit for nighttime hikes, but if you’re still on the peak after 9 AM, a permit is required.
  • Recommendation: We highly recommend hiking with an experienced guide for safety and to fully enjoy the stargazing and sunrise.
