Private Teide Hikes
If you’re looking for a more private experience, we also offer two private trips: a Difficult Private Teide Hike and an Easy Private Teide Hike. These private options can usually be booked closer to the date, around 7-14 days in advance. However, for any bookings within 30 days of the tour, it’s always a good idea to confirm availability with us first. hike at least 40 days in advance due to the limited availability of permits. Hiking Mount Teide Information
- Your Club Canary Ticket: Remember to bring your Club Canary ticket! You can either show it on your phone or bring a printed copy.
- Clothing and Footwear: Wear proper mountain shoes and comfortable clothing. If the weather is cold, bring warm clothes like a jacket or long pants. At the summit in winter, it can get very cold, and snow is even possible. Always check the weather forecast for Mount Teide before you hike.
- Food and Drinks: Bring your own food and drinks as they are not included in the hike. We recommend eating before starting the hike—it’s best not to begin on an empty stomach. We may stop at a supermarket for snacks or sandwiches (at your own expense) before the hike begins.
- Children and Age Restrictions: Children under 16 can join the hike but must be accompanied by an adult.
- Fitness Requirements: You don’t need to be an athlete, but some fitness is required. You should be able to walk long distances and climb stairs comfortably.
- Permit and Documents: To reach the summit of Mount Teide, you need a Tenerife Teide hiking permit. We will arrange this for you after booking, but we’ll need a photo of your passport to issue the permit in your name. Be sure to bring your passport or ID on the hike day.
- Weather Considerations: The weather at the top of Teide can be very different from lower areas of Tenerife. It’s often cold at the summit, even in summer. If the weather is bad on your hike day, we can’t reschedule because of the limited number of permits. We recommend making the most of the experience, regardless of the weather.
- Booking in Advance: Permits for the summit of Mount Teide are limited to only 200 people per day. For this reason, we recommend booking at least 40 days in advance. If you’re booking late and no permits are available, contact us via live chat. We may be able to find an earlier spot or suggest alternative options.
- New 2025 Safety Rules for the Difficult Hike: For those joining the Difficult Teide Hike, new safety rules apply. You must bring the following items, or you may be denied access: Proper mountain shoes, warm clothing, thermal blanket, enough water, a fully charged mobile phone and headlamp or flashlight. Local authorities, including the Civil Guard’s Mountain Rescue team, will perform random checks. If you’re missing any of these items, let us know in the order note so the guide can bring extra equipment for you.
Alternative Option: Teide Night Hike
If a daytime permit isn’t available, consider the unique and magical Teide night hike. This adventure begins around midnight, allowing you to reach the summit for the sunrise—an unforgettable experience. Unlike daytime hikes, you don’t need a permit at night. However, if you stay at the summit after 9 AM, a permit will be required.
This hike offers spectacular views of the island and the ocean, along with the serene beauty of the night sky. For safety and to enhance your experience, we strongly recommend hiking with an official guide, who will provide insights about the stars and the volcano’s history.

Hiking Up Mount Teide: Policy
- Cancellation Policy: Once your booking is confirmed, you can cancel up to 40 days before the trip and receive a 60% refund of the total price. This is due to the Teide restrictions and the way permits and cable car tickets work. Cancellations made between 20-40 days prior to the trip will receive a 40% refund. Cancellations made 10-20 days before the trip will be refunded 20%. Unfortunately, no refunds will be provided for cancellations less than 10 days before the trip, including for sickness or other reasons. We understand this can be frustrating, but this policy is in place due to the strict regulations surrounding the Mount Teide permit and the contract with the guide.
- Permit and Documentation: To join the hiking Teide Tenerife experience, a valid passport is required for permit verification. Please ensure you bring your passport with you on the day of the hike. Without it, you will not be able to participate.
- Age and Fitness Requirements: Children aged 6 and older can join the easy hike with an accompanying parent or guardian. The difficult hike requires participants to be 16 years or older and in excellent physical condition. A reasonable level of fitness is required for all hikes. While the routes are not extremely challenging, participants should be comfortable climbing stairs and walking for extended periods.
- Hike Conduct: If you cause delays or choose to turn back during the hike for any reason, no refunds will be given. This hike is weather-dependent. In the event of hazardous weather conditions, the guide has the final say on whether the hike is safe to proceed. If the guide cancels the hike due to unsafe conditions, you will be offered a rescheduled date or a full refund. However, if the guide determines it is safe to continue and you choose not to participate, no refunds will be issued, and penalties may apply.
- Complaints and Assistance: Please note that the Club Canary team is not present during the hike. If you have any concerns or complaints during your Tenerife Mount Teide permit experience, please address them directly with your hiking guide, as they are the best person to handle the situation.

Difficult Private Teide Hike
For seasoned hikers looking for a challenge, this hike starts at 2,300 meters and leads you to the peak of Mount Teide. The route covers a climb of about 1,500 meters and a descent of 170 meters, lasting approximately 5-6 hours.
Price:
- Without Pick-up: 590€ (for 2 people) + 47.50€ per extra person (Meeting point at 08:45 at Montaña Blanca car park).
- With Pick-up: 793€ (for 2 people) + 75.50€ per extra person.
You will need to be well-prepared, bringing your own food and drinks.
Easy Private Teide Hike
This option is similar to the regular group tour but with extra support and flexibility, as it’s just for your group. You will have more availability for photos and personalized attention, with fewer people booking in advance compared to the group tour.
Price:
- Without Pick-up: 480€ (for 2 people) + 100€ per extra person.
- With Pick-up: 683€ (for 2 people) + 135€ per extra person.
This option includes everything the regular hike offers, including the cable car tickets, the “Science and Legend” exhibition tickets, and the necessary permit. It’s a great option for those who want a more private and tailored Teide experience.
New Teide Hiking Regulations in 2025
Starting in 2025, new regulations have been implemented to preserve the stunning beauty of Teide National Park. Authorities, including the Civil Guard’s Special Mountain Rescue Intervention Group (GREIM) and the Tenerife Fire and Rescue Consortium, have set specific guidelines for hikers.
If you plan to join the difficult private Teide hike, be prepared for random checks at designated checkpoints. To ensure your safety and compliance, you are required to carry the following equipment:
- Appropriate mountain footwear
- Warm clothing
- Thermal blanket
- Sufficient water
- A fully charged mobile phone
- A headlamp or flashlight
You Don’t Have All the Equipment?
Hikers without the required essentials will be denied access. It’s your responsibility to come fully equipped. In case you have all the necessary items (mountain footwear, warm clothing, thermal blanket, sufficient water, etc.), please bring them with you. If you’re missing anything, such as a thermal blanket or flashlight, let us know in the order note. Normally, the guide has extra supplies.
