The Legal Way to Hike Mount Teide – Permit & Guide Included.
This guided Mount Teide hike is for travelers who want to reach the summit legally, safely, and without any hassle. We work directly with official Teide guides and the government permit system. Everything is organised – pickup, permit, cable car, and guide. This is not something you can arrange last minute. Permits are strictly limited and often sell out weeks in advance.
Full payment confirms your permit and official guide. Book early – last-minute bookings are often not possible. If weather or cable car operations change, we handle rescheduling or refunds fast. Local Club Canary team available every day from 08:00 to 22:00.
Tip: Most sellers only offer a cable car ticket. That ticket does NOT give you access to the summit. You need an official permit and a guide to hike to the top legally 😉

• When booking, enter the name of the hotel where you are staying

🌦 Weather & cable car (read this):
Teide weather changes fast. In winter it can be very cold with snow possible near the summit. Strong winds are common, and if conditions are unsafe the cable car can close and the activity may be cancelled for safety. If this happens, Club Canary will offer a reschedule when possible or a full refund. Permits are limited so rescheduling is not always easy, but we will always respond quickly and sort it clearly.
📅 Book well in advance:
Only 200 summit permits are available per day. We recommend booking at least 40 days in advance. Booking last minute? Contact us via WhatsApp or live chat – sometimes we can still help. If not, we will suggest the best alternative available.

Mount Teide Hike FAQ
Is it possible to go to the top of Mount Teide as a tourist?
Yes, tourists can reach the summit of Mount Teide, but only with an official permit. Mount Teide is a protected national park, and access to the summit is strictly limited per day. Without a permit, you are not allowed to hike to the top, even if you take the cable car.
Do I need a permit to hike Mount Teide?
Yes. If you want to hike to the summit of Mount Teide, a Mount Teide summit permit is mandatory. Cable car tickets alone do not allow access to the summit trail. When you book a Mount Teide guided hike with Club Canary, the permit is included and arranged for you.
Can I hike Mount Teide without a permit?
No. Hiking Mount Teide without a permit is illegal. Regulations are strictly enforced, and there are multiple checkpoints on the trails. Hikers caught without permission can receive heavy fines and will be turned back immediately, without any refund. It’s not worth the risk.
Is it still possible to hike Mount Teide at night without a permit?
No. Hiking Mount Teide without a permit is not allowed at any time, including at night. This is a common misunderstanding based on old information. Regulations are now very strict, with checkpoints day and night. People caught hiking without the correct permit and authorisation can receive heavy fines and will be turned back immediately. Night hikes are only possible when fully organised and authorised through official channels. Going alone or trying to “sneak up” is not worth the risk.
Is hiking all the way to the top of Mount Teide worth it?
Hiking or going all the way to the summit of Mount Teide is worth it for some people, but it is not a must-do for everyone. This experience is about altitude, effort, and views, not about seeing lava, smoke, or an erupting volcano. Mount Teide is active, but it looks calm and quiet.
We always recommend visiting Teide National Park in general. That part is a clear yes. The landscapes are unreal, and there are many easier ways to enjoy Teide, such as scenic drives, stargazing tours, or guided sightseeing tours.
Going all the way to the top is best for people who enjoy hiking, high-altitude environments, and doing something a bit challenging. If you like nature and unique landscapes, you’ll love it. If you expect a dramatic volcano show or an easy walk, this experience may feel underwhelming.
That’s why we’re honest about it. The Mount Teide summit hike is special, but it’s not automatically the best choice for every traveler.
Is Mount Teide an active volcano, and is hiking to the top dangerous?
Yes, Mount Teide is an active volcano, but it is closely monitored and considered stable. You will not see lava flows, eruptions, or smoke clouds. This is not a volcano show. What you may notice near the summit are natural steam vents where hot air comes out of the ground. They are harmless if respected, but you should never touch them or step off marked paths.
Hiking to the top of Mount Teide is not dangerous if done properly, but it is also not risk-free. The main challenges are altitude (3,715 m), weather changes, wind, cold, and physical effort. Breathing feels heavier, temperatures can drop fast, and conditions can change within minutes.
That’s exactly why access to the summit is strictly regulated and why guided hikes are strongly recommended. Rangers and guards perform checks, and people without permits, guides, or proper equipment can be turned back or fined. This applies day and night.
So no, Teide is not dangerous in an erupting-volcano sense. But yes, hiking to the summit requires respect, preparation, and the right setup. Follow the rules, go with an official guide, wear proper gear, and it’s a safe and unforgettable experience. Ignore the rules, and it can quickly turn into a problem.
How difficult is the Mount Teide hike?
Based on Club Canary team members’ own experience, the Mount Teide hike is very manageable for many people, but it’s not for everyone.
The easy hike from the cable car to the summit is short and not a long walk. If you are reasonably fit, used to walking, and don’t have problems with stairs, it’s actually a fun experience. The main challenge is the altitude, not the distance. Breathing can feel heavier, and the last section is a short but steeper climb where you go up step by step.
If you already struggle with stairs, knee pain, or shortness of breath at height, this part can feel hard. In that case, we honestly recommend choosing a different Teide experience instead. Teide National Park is still incredible without going all the way to the top. Stargazing tours, scenic Teide visits, or cable car experiences are often a much better and more enjoyable option.
The guide will always assess the situation on the spot, but it’s important to be realistic. There is no shame in choosing a different Teide excursion. You will still have an amazing experience without forcing yourself into something that won’t be enjoyable.
The difficult hike is a completely different level and is only suitable for experienced hikers with good physical condition.
One last thing to be clear about: hiking down from the summit is not fun. It’s hard on the knees, slippery in parts, and much more tiring than people expect. That’s why descending on foot is normally avoided and not considered a good alternative.
Bottom line:
If you enjoy hiking and have basic fitness, the easy hike is a great experience. If not, Teide still offers many fantastic alternatives that are often more enjoyable for you.
What happens if the cable car closes or the weather is bad?
Weather on Mount Teide can change very fast. Strong wind, snow, ice, or technical issues with the cable car can cause last-minute cancellations, even if the forecast looked fine earlier. This happens quite often, especially in winter and on windy days.
If the hike is cancelled, rescheduling is usually not possible. Summit permits are normally sold out weeks in advance, so moving the booking to another day only works if you are staying on Tenerife much longer and new permits become available. In most cases, rescheduling is simply not realistic.
Hiking down from the summit is not a good alternative. It’s long, hard on the knees, slippery in places, and honestly not enjoyable, especially if you are already tired from the climb. For safety and experience reasons, this option is normally avoided.
When a cancellation happens, our partners sometimes offer an alternative guided Teide experience instead. You can choose whether you want to join that option or not. If the alternative is cheaper, the price difference is refunded. If no suitable alternative is available, we handle the situation clearly and fairly.
These decisions are made by weather conditions and authorities, not by Club Canary. We know it’s frustrating, it’s annoying for us too, but it’s part of hiking Mount Teide. We warn about this clearly in advance so expectations are realistic.
So please don’t be angry at Club Canary 😉
We don’t control the volcano, the weather, or the cable car. What we do control is clear communication, fast support, and fair handling when things go wrong.
Can I reschedule my Mount Teide hike?
Normally, no. Rescheduling is very difficult unless you are staying on Tenerife for several extra weeks. Permits are limited and booked far in advance. This is controlled by the authorities, not by Club Canary or the guides.
What if I can’t continue the hike or don’t feel well?
If you decide to turn back or wait during the hike, this is allowed, but no refund applies. The guide cannot carry participants or stop the group. If you have mobility concerns (little only), a private Mount Teide hike is the better option.
What equipment is required for Mount Teide hiking?
Proper mountain shoes, warm clothing, water, and required safety gear are mandatory. Rangers check equipment on the trails. If you don’t meet the requirements, you will be denied access without refund. Missing small items like a thermal blanket or flashlight can sometimes be arranged if mentioned in advance.
Is pickup available from all areas of Tenerife?
Yes, pickup is available from main tourist areas, including Puerto de la Cruz in the north. Please provide a hotel name only, not an apartment or Airbnb address. If you stay in an apartment, give the name of the closest hotel. This helps us assign the correct pickup point.
Why book a Mount Teide hike with Club Canary instead of Volcano Teide directly?
Volcano Teide is the official authority for permits and cable car access, and all regulations come from them and Teide National Park. Club Canary doesn’t replace that. What we add is the service around the experience.
We help you understand whether going all the way to the summit is right for you. Many guests choose Club Canary because they already book other Tenerife activities with us. That makes it easy to combine experiences, use Club Canary gift cards, and benefit from group discounts.
Our prices are the same as official channels and, in some cases, even cheaper when booked as part of a group or combined with other activities. All prices include local taxes and transaction costs, so there are no surprises later. Our local team is available every day from 08:00 to 22:00, speaks multiple languages, and offers neutral advice, not pushy sales.
You still get the official permit and certified guide. The difference is clarity, flexibility, and having someone on your side if plans change.
What is the best place to book a Mount Teide hike?
The best place to book a Mount Teide hike is with a local company that gives clear information and handles everything in one go. Club Canary is not only focused on Teide hikes. We specialise in organising high-quality Tenerife experiences, group bookings, and smooth planning, which is why many travelers like to book this hike with us as well.
Because we’re neutral, we can honestly advise whether hiking to the summit is right for you, suggest alternatives if permits are unavailable, and help combine this hike with other activities. Official providers usually focus only on their own products, while we look at the full picture and what fits your trip best. Prices are the same as official channels and sometimes even lower for groups or combined bookings, always including local taxes and payment costs.
In the end, the most important thing is that you book with a company you feel comfortable with. Whether that’s Club Canary or another provider, make sure you understand the rules, the conditions, and what to expect, so you can enjoy the Mount Teide experience without surprises.
Can beginners hike Mount Teide?
Yes, beginners can join the easy guided Mount Teide hike, but basic fitness is required. You must be able to walk uphill and handle altitude. If you’re unsure, a private hike gives more flexibility and support.
Will I see lava or volcanic activity during the Teide hike?
No. Mount Teide is not erupting, and you will not see lava, smoke, or explosions. The experience is about views, geology, and reaching Spain’s highest point. Anyone expecting an active eruption experience will be disappointed.
What happens if I book and permits are not available?
Our calendar is kept as up to date as possible. Dates that are fully sold out are blocked, so if you see a green date, you can safely book without asking first. In rare cases, availability can change because permits are released again or earlier bookings are cancelled.
When you book, your payment is not charged immediately. If you pay by credit card or PayPal, the payment stays pending until we fully confirm the permit. If permits cannot be secured, you will not be charged.
If a date shows unavailable on the calendar but is more than 10 days away, you can contact us via WhatsApp to double-check manually. Requests for dates within 10 days are unfortunately not possible, as permits are already fully allocated by that point.
In short: if the date is green, just book it. If it’s blocked and far enough in the future, you can ask us to check. We only charge once everything is confirmed, so there’s no risk in booking early.

Mount Teide is a natural environment. Weather, volcanic activity, safety decisions, and park regulations are controlled by the authorities and can change at any time. Club Canary cannot be held responsible for natural events, sudden closures, or decisions made by park authorities or guides on the day.
If you experience any issues during the hike itself, these must be discussed directly with the guide on-site, as they are responsible for safety and execution during the activity. The Club Canary team is not present on the mountain.
By booking, you acknowledge that this experience involves nature, altitude, and external factors beyond anyone’s control. Our goal is to be honest, realistic, and transparent, so you can decide if this hike is right for you and enjoy it with the right expectations.

🔥 How the Mount Teide Hike Actually Works

You get picked up and driven through Teide National Park – most of the altitude is covered by car. No need to walk from the base.
Step 2 – Cable Car to 3,555m
The cable car takes you up to 3,555 meters. From there it’s only 160 meters of actual hiking to the summit.
Step 3 – Summit Hike with Guide
Your official guide leads you to the summit at 3,715m. Short but steep. The altitude is the main challenge, not the distance.
Step 4 – Cable Car Down & Return
Take the cable car back down and get dropped off at your original pickup point.
⏱️ The actual hiking is short – around 30 to 45 minutes each way from the cable car station. The altitude is what makes it feel tough, not the distance.
💬 Permit Sorted – No Stress

💬 Club Canary’s Honest Take
Do you need to hike to the top of Mount Teide? Honestly – not really. Most of our excursions, like quad safaris and stargazing trips, already take you into Teide National Park. The views from up there are absolutely stunning and you don’t need to reach the summit to experience them. Up at the top, you’re often in the clouds anyway, it’s cold, windy, and the view is not dramatically different from what you see a few hundred meters below.
That said – if you’re someone who loves mountains, wants to tick off Spain’s highest peak, or just really wants to say you stood on top of a volcano, this is a genuinely special experience. The guided Mount Teide hike with permit is also one of the most tightly regulated activities in Tenerife, which means everything is organised properly and done legally. No stress, no paperwork, no guessing.
Book with Club Canary, permits are confirmed fast, prices are the best available, and our team is here every day from 08:00 to 22:00. If weather causes a cancellation, we sort it simply – easy refund or reschedule, no drama.
Want to go to the top of Tenerife? This is the right way to do it. Legal, guided, and sorted. 🔥
