⚠️ Read this before you book
- Bring your original passport or EU ID. This is island-to-island travel with border checks, so a photo on your phone is not enough. No valid ID means no boarding, and there is no refund.
- Do not miss the ferry. The day starts early and most of the price is the ferry ticket, which cannot be refunded. If you are not in the north pickup area, come straight to Los Cristianos harbour for 07:45 so you never risk missing the boat.
- La Palma has microclimates. The weather can differ a lot between areas, so check the forecast and bring an extra layer.
- The trip depends on the ferry timetable. Right now a morning crossing over and a direct evening crossing back on the same day is possible, which is what makes this day trip work. Ferry schedules can change, so it runs on selected dates, always check current availability.
Tenerife to La Palma Excursion
After our popular day trip from Tenerife to La Gomera, this is our other big island excursion to see a second Canary Island in a day. You board the Fred Olsen ferry at Los Cristianos at 08:30, and after a smooth 2.5 hour crossing you arrive in Santa Cruz de La Palma at 11:00 for a guided city walk with an official local guide, then a full loop of the island's volcano highlights. Remember your passport or EU ID to board the ferry.
La Palma Runs On Demand
Being straight with you: La Palma is a niche destination. In quieter months a departure may not have enough guests to run. If that happens, Club Canary contacts you directly and offers a full refund or an alternative, so there are no surprises. This is also why the trip runs only on selected dates.

La Palma Day Trip, Frequently Asked Questions
The questions guests ask us most about the ferry, the passport rule, the lunch and the two starting points. Still unsure? Chat with our local team on WhatsApp.
Do I need a passport for the Tenerife to La Palma day trip?
Yes. Every guest leaving from Tenerife needs a valid original passport or EU ID card. This is island-to-island travel with border checks at the ferry, so a photo on your phone is not enough. Without valid ID you cannot board, and there is no refund. If you are already staying on La Palma and join the tour there, you do not need it for the ferry.
Where and what time does the tour start?
Everyone sails from Los Cristianos harbour on the 08:30 ferry. If you are staying in the Puerto de la Cruz or La Orotava area in north Tenerife, hotel pickup is included, just choose your hotel when you book. If you are staying elsewhere in the south, come straight to the Fred Olsen ticket desk at Los Cristianos harbour for 07:45. Your exact meeting details are on your Club Canary ticket.
Is lunch included, and what is it like?
Lunch is included on the ticket from Tenerife, at a local restaurant on the island. Being straight with you: it is simple local food. Some guests really enjoy it and others find it basic, so keep your expectations sensible. It does the job on a long day out, but it is not a gourmet meal.
What will I see on La Palma?
The day covers the main highlights of the island. You start with a guided walk through the old town of Santa Cruz de La Palma, with its cobbled streets, wooden balconies and colonial charm. Then you visit the Tajogaite volcano, formed by the 2021 eruption, where your guide explains how it reshaped the island. After lunch there is a short, peaceful stop at the Santuario de Las Nieves, the island's patron, before the ferry home.
What time am I back in Tenerife?
The ferry leaves La Palma at 17:00 and you arrive back in Los Cristianos harbour around 19:30. It is a full day out, so plan a relaxed evening afterwards.
Can I join if I am already staying on La Palma?
Yes. If you are already on the island you can join the tour directly and skip the ferry from Tenerife. This option is 85€ for adults and 75€ for children, and you meet the group at 11:15 at the meeting point on La Palma (the pin is on your ticket). You pay a small deposit online and the rest on the day. No passport is needed if you are already staying on the island.
What happens if I miss the ferry or the bus?
Please do not miss it. The day starts early and most of the price is the ferry ticket, which cannot be refunded once the day is set. If you miss the ferry, there is no refund. This is exactly why we recommend coming straight to Los Cristianos harbour for 07:45, so you are never caught out by traffic or a late pickup.
Does this trip run all year round?
La Palma is a niche island, and the day trip depends on the ferry timetable. Right now a morning crossing over and a direct evening crossing back on the same day is possible, which is what makes this work. Schedules can change, so the trip runs only on selected dates. In quieter months a departure may not have enough guests to run. If that happens, we contact you directly and offer a full refund or an alternative. No surprises.
What should I bring and wear?
Bring your passport or EU ID, comfortable shoes, and a little cash for extras. La Palma has microclimates, so the weather can differ a lot between areas. Check the forecast and bring an extra layer, even on a sunny day in the south of Tenerife.
Is the tour suitable for children and families?
Yes, it works well for families. There are child and baby prices, and the day is mostly comfortable bus sightseeing with easy walking at each stop. Children still need a valid passport or EU ID for the ferry, the same as adults.
How do I pay, and is there a deposit?
For the trip from Tenerife you pay in full online with Club Canary, which secures your place, because a large part of the fee goes straight to the ferry tickets and local suppliers. For the La Palma direct-arrival option you pay a 30€ deposit online and the balance in cash on the day. There is an ATM at the harbour if you need cash.
Is this a hiking tour or hard walking?
No. This is mainly a sightseeing tour by air-conditioned bus, with easy walking at each stop. You can be as active or as relaxed as you like at the viewpoints. No hiking shoes or fitness level needed, just comfortable footwear.
La Palma Day Trip Booking And Cancellation Policy
Payment
- You pay the full price online. This holds your place. We handle any refund for you.
Your Free Cancellation Window
- 1 to 3 people: free up to 72 hours before the trip.
- 4 to 7 people: free up to 5 days before.
- 8 or more people: free up to 8 days before.
- Big groups are hard to refill at the last minute. That is the only reason. The ferry tickets are bought in advance in your name. If your group only gets smaller, tell us at least 48 hours before and we lower the price. To cancel, email office@clubcanary.com.
After Your Free Window Closes
- You cancel after your free window, but more than 24 hours before? You get 75% of your money back.
- You cancel between 12 and 24 hours before? You get 25% of your money back.
- You cancel less than 12 hours before, or you do not show up? You do not get money back. Our partner charges us the full price either way.
The Only Exception
- The only exception is a real doctor or hospital paper that says you cannot join. It must have a date from before the trip, or the same morning. A paper made after the trip does not count. We need this document for our partner. Feeling unwell without this paper is not enough for a refund. We know this is strict, and we are sorry, but it is the only way we can protect against last-minute cancellations.
The Ferry And Pickup
- If you miss the ferry, you do not get money back. Hotel pickup is free where we offer it. If you are not on a pickup route, please go to the harbour yourself in good time.
By Booking You Accept This
By booking with Club Canary, you confirm you have read and accepted this policy. It is not to make things difficult. It is what lets us offer easy booking with a small deposit in advance. A deposit alone does not cover the cost of a no-show or a last-minute cancellation. That is why these terms exist. If something genuinely goes wrong, talk to us. We will always try to find a fair solution.

Club Canary's Honest Take
Real talk from your local team in the Canary Islands
La Palma is our second island day trip after La Gomera, and it is a proper full day out: an early start, a real ferry crossing, and a green volcano island most visitors never reach. If you like nature, viewpoints and the 2021 eruption story, it delivers. If you want a lie-in and a beach day, this is not it.
Two honest things. The lunch is simple local food, some love it, some find it basic, so keep expectations sensible. And the whole day hangs on the ferry, so bring your passport or EU ID, get to the harbour on time, and know it runs only on dates the timetable allows. Miss the boat and there is no refund, because the ferry money is already spent.
A long, rewarding day on the Canaries' green volcano island. Well worth it if the nature is what you came for.
