Read This First: A Port Day Is Short
Three honest things about Santa Cruz that save you a bad afternoon.
Santa Cruz is a working capital with a fine square, good shopping and a lot of offices. Teide National Park is a 60 to 75 minute drive each way, the whale boats leave from the south coast, Loro Parque is 40 minutes west. A port call under 7 hours is a city day. 7 hours or more opens the island.
Give us the ship name and the all-aboard time and the private tour is built around it, with a buffer. We do not sell a tour that cuts it fine. Missing a ship is the worst day of a holiday, and no tour is worth that. The Royal Delfin coach returns around 19:30, so that one is for guests staying in the city, never for a port day.
No ship clock: the whale watching coach collects in Santa Cruz at 12:15 and 12:30, the private tours pick you up at your hotel, and the tourist bus starts at Plaza de España. Want the big south coast trips, jet ski, Siam Park, the quads? Message us, we tell you honestly what the drive is worth.

Which One Fits Your Day In Santa Cruz?
Good To Know In Santa Cruz
The cruise port and the meeting point
Cruise ships dock at the terminals on the south side of the harbour, a 5 to 15 minute walk to the port gates depending on the berth. The private tours meet at the bus stop on the seafront avenue directly across from the port entrance, next to the taxi rank. Plaza de España, where the tourist bus starts, is a short walk from there. Guests staying in Santa Cruz are collected at their hotel instead.
Ship times, and why we ask for them
Every private tour booking needs the ship name and the all-aboard time, not the departure time. We plan the route backwards from it with a buffer, and we confirm within 24 hours. No ship details, no confirmation. If your port call is shorter than 7 hours, we say so and point you to the bus.
Getting around the capital
Santa Cruz is walkable: the square, the old streets, the market at La Recova and the Auditorio are all close to the port. The tram to La Laguna leaves from the Intercambiador bus station, about 35 minutes to the old town. Taxis wait at the port exit. For the beach, Las Teresitas is 15 minutes by taxi.
Payment per tour
Private tours: a deposit online, the balance on the day in cash unless agreed otherwise. Tourist bus: paid in full online, open dated, valid a year. Royal Delfin: a deposit online, the rest on the boat. Carnival: paid in full at booking. Loro Parque groups: quoted and agreed by email.
Weather, cancellations and the honest bits
Teide has its own weather: it can be 25 degrees in the port and 8 degrees at the cable car base, bring a warm layer. Private tours have their own cancellation ladder on the tour page, with free cancellation more than 7 days before. If the operator cancels for weather or a road closure, you move the date or get a full refund. Whales are wild, sightings are never guaranteed and never refunded.
Languages
Private tours run in English and Spanish. The Royal Delfin guides work in Spanish, English, German and French. The tourist bus has audio in several languages. Club Canary answers on WhatsApp in more than ten languages.

Quick, honest answers to what cruise guests and city visitors ask us most. Still stuck? Message the local team on WhatsApp.
What can I do in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on a cruise port day?
It depends on your hours in port. With 7 hours or more, the private Teide and La Laguna tour from the port gates takes your group above the clouds and back with a buffer before all-aboard. With less time, the hop on hop off bus starts at Plaza de España next to the port and shows you the capital in a 75-minute loop. Club Canary tells you honestly which one fits when you send your ship name and all-aboard time.
How far is Mount Teide from the Santa Cruz cruise port?
About 60 to 75 minutes by road each way. That is why Club Canary only sells the private Teide tour from Santa Cruz for port calls of 7 hours or more. The tour is planned backwards from your all-aboard time with a buffer, and nothing is sold that cuts it fine.
Can I go whale watching from Santa Cruz de Tenerife?
Yes, if you are staying in the capital or the north. The Royal Delfin whale watching with a coach from Santa Cruz collects you at bus stops in the city around midday, sails from the south coast with lunch, drinks and a swim stop, and brings you back in the evening. It is a full day out of 7 to 8 hours. Cruise guests should not book it, because the coach returns after most ships close boarding.
Where is the meeting point for Club Canary tours at the Santa Cruz port?
For the private tours, the bus stop on the seafront avenue directly across from the port entrance, next to the taxi rank. The exact Google Maps link is on your ticket. Guests staying in a hotel in Santa Cruz are collected at the hotel instead. The tourist bus starts at Plaza de España, a short walk from the port gates.
Why does Club Canary ask for my ship name and all-aboard time?
Because a private tour from the port is only confirmed when it fits your ship. We plan the route backwards from the all-aboard time, not the departure time, add a buffer, and confirm within 24 hours. Without the ship details the booking cannot be confirmed. It is the one rule that keeps every guest on board.
Is the private Teide tour from Santa Cruz worth it compared to a coach tour?
For a port day, yes. Coach tours follow a fixed route with forty strangers and a fixed clock. The private tour is your group only, up to 8 people in a minivan, with a driver guide who stops where you want and leaves when your ship says so. The price is per vehicle, so for a family or a group of friends it costs about the same as coach seats, with the whole day on your terms.
What is the difference between the Teide route and the Anaga route?
Both are private, both about 5 hours, both from the port or your hotel, same price. The Teide route goes up into Teide National Park above the clouds and stops in La Laguna on the way back. The Anaga route stays green: the laurel forest, its viewpoints and the old streets of La Laguna, with no high altitude, which suits guests who have seen Teide already or prefer not to go up to 2,000 metres.
Can I visit Loro Parque from the Santa Cruz cruise port?
Loro Parque is in Puerto de la Cruz, about 40 minutes from the port. Club Canary arranges it today for groups: tickets plus private transport from the harbour and back, timed to your ship. Send the group size and your port hours on WhatsApp and you get one quote. A fixed departure for families is being built.
Can I see the Tenerife Carnival if I am staying in Santa Cruz?
Yes. Club Canary sells the main parade, the Coso Apoteosis, with a bus from the south and Puerto de la Cruz, and a chair-only option for guests who are already in Santa Cruz. Tribune chairs are limited and allocated in booking order, so early bookings get the seats. Dates change every year, the Carnival page always shows the current edition.
Why book Santa Cruz excursions with Club Canary instead of the cruise line?
Because we are local, honest and reachable. A real team in Tenerife answers on WhatsApp every day from 08:00 to 22:00, tells you what fits your hours and what does not, and books only licensed operators. You reserve with a deposit on most tours and pay the rest on the day, with a Best Price Guarantee. And we say no when a tour does not fit your ship, which a sales desk rarely does.
