3-Hour Trip, Wednesday And Saturday Only
The 3-hour Royal Delfin excursion runs only on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:30. Worth checking before you book, because it does not run every day. It sails from Puerto Colon along the coast from Playa de las Americas towards Diego Hernandez Bay, with whale and dolphin watching, the underwater viewing area, a swim stop, drinks and a courtesy lunch. For families with young children it is a good half day on the water.
4.5-Hour Trip, The One Most Guests Book, Daily At 14:00
The 4.5-hour trip runs every day at 14:00 and is the one most people choose. More time at sea, a slower pace and a fuller day, so if your schedule allows it, it is usually worth the extra. The catamaran sails from Costa Adeje along the south west coast towards the cliffs of Los Gigantes, with time to look for whales and dolphins, use the underwater windows, and anchor in Masca Bay for a swim and lunch.

The main point of the trip is sustainable whale and dolphin watching on the open sea. These waters sit inside the Teno-Rasca protected marine area, where pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are resident all year, so there is no wrong month to go. The operator is licensed by the Canary Islands Government for cetacean watching and carries the Barco Azul flag.
The underwater area is fun and genuinely different, especially for children, but keep expectations realistic. On busy days and through the summer it gets crowded down there, and children naturally gather at the glass, which is normal on a large family boat. The windows are a strong extra. The real highlight is still seeing the animals out in the wild from the deck.

It departs from Puerto Colon, Gate 12, in Costa Adeje. Free round-trip hotel pickup covers the main south Tenerife areas: Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, extending to Los Gigantes, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraiso, El Medano, Golf del Sur and Ten-Bel on certain days. It must be arranged when you book, and your exact pickup point and time are confirmed afterwards. Staying in Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz? This pickup does not reach the north, so use our northern pickup version instead.
Will we definitely see whales and dolphins?
Whale and dolphin watching is the main goal, and these waters have resident pilot whales, but this is wild nature so sightings can never be guaranteed. The clearest views are usually from the open outdoor decks rather than the underwater windows.
Are the underwater windows worth it?
They are a fun extra, especially for children, but expectations should stay realistic. On busy days or in summer the downstairs area can get crowded, and the clearest wildlife sightings usually happen from the outside decks. Think of the windows as a nice bonus, not the main event.
Is the Royal Delfin good for families and wheelchair users?
For families, yes. It is a large, stable catamaran with toilets, indoor seating, shade and open decks across three levels, comfortable for mixed age groups all year. For wheelchair users it is more limited and we would rather be clear. The main deck is accessible and the crew helps with boarding, but only manual wheelchairs up to 68cm wide can be carried, electric wheelchairs cannot. The upper deck and the underwater viewing area are reached by stairs, and there is no fully accessible toilet on board, though Puerto Colon has accessible toilets near the boarding area. Importantly, the transfer coach is not adapted for wheelchairs, so you would need to come directly to Puerto Colon. Please contact us before booking and tell us the number of wheelchair users in your order notes.
What is included, and what should I bring?
Both trips include whale and dolphin watching, the underwater windows, a swim stop, and food and drinks on board. Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and sunglasses. If you are sensitive to seasickness, eat something light before the trip.
I am staying in Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz. Can I book this trip?
Not this one, because the free pickup on this page only covers south Tenerife. The same boat runs a separate service with a coach that collects from Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz, and it has its own page with all the stops and times: whale watching with northern pickup. Be aware it is a long day, roughly 7 to 8 hours from Santa Cruz and up to 10 from Puerto de la Cruz, because the whales are off the south west coast. If you have your own car, driving to Puerto Colon and booking on this page is quicker and cheaper.

- For the 3-hour trip the extended areas run on Wednesday only, so always check your confirmed pickup details.
- You receive your exact pickup point and time after booking. Be ready at least 5 minutes early.

- The main deck is accessible, and the crew helps with boarding within what is safely possible.
- Manual wheelchairs up to 68cm wide can be carried. Electric wheelchairs cannot.
- The upper deck and the underwater viewing area are reached by stairs.
- There is no fully accessible toilet on board, though Puerto Colon has accessible toilets near the boarding area.
- The transfer coach is not adapted for wheelchairs, so guests using one need to travel to Puerto Colon directly.

Cancellation
- Free cancellation or changes up to 24 hours before departure.
- Groups of 8 or more: free up to 48 hours before.
- After that the deposit is not refunded.
- Less than 6 hours before: a fee of 20€ per adult and 10€ per child.
- Less than 2 hours before, or a no-show: the deposit is lost, plus 30€ per adult and 15€ per child.
- No refund for a no-show or a late arrival.
Responsibility And Conduct
- Club Canary works with trusted local operators who run the tour and manage safety on board.
- Please follow all crew instructions during the excursion.
- Raise any complaint on the day with the crew so they can help immediately.
Weather And Sightings
- This activity depends on sea and weather conditions. If it is cancelled for weather, take a new date or a full refund.
- Whales and dolphins are wild animals. Sightings here are common and the pods are resident all year, but no sighting can be guaranteed and no refund is given if they do not appear.
- No refund is given for seasickness or personal discomfort during the trip.

The Royal Delfin is a good fit for families, mixed age groups and anyone who wants a comfortable, organised whale and dolphin trip without fuss. It is one of the classic names in south Tenerife and the 16 underwater windows make it genuinely different, especially with children. Keep expectations realistic though: the clearest wildlife views are from the outdoor decks, and downstairs gets busy in peak season.
On size, we will be straight. The boat takes up to 200 guests and in July and August it often sails close to full. That means a queue at lunch and a busy deck. Outside the summer it is much calmer. If you want a small quiet boat, tell us and we will point you at one instead.
