⚠️ The Floating Car Is Not What It Was. Read This First.
Spanish law changed on 1 October 2026. You can no longer drive a rental boat in Spain without a boat licence, and that includes this one. The licence-free category is gone nationwide.
If you hold a boat licence, you can still rent the floating car and drive it yourself, exactly as before. Availability is limited, so message us before you plan around it.
If you do not hold a licence, a skipper has to come along. Same price, but here is the honest problem: the boat seats four. So a group of four becomes three friends and a stranger, sitting inside a Fiat 500. The whole point of this boat was the photo of your group in the car.
So we are going to be straight with you. For almost everyone reading this, a proper private boat trip is now the better day out, and we would rather send you there than take a booking you will regret. The alternatives are below.

Car Boat Rental Tenerife, The Honest Update On The Floating Fiat 500
The floating car was one of the most shared things on the water in Tenerife. A boat built to look like a classic Fiat 500, driven by you, from Puerto Colón. Then the law changed. This page explains what the rule actually means for this boat, who can still rent it, and what we honestly think you should book instead. We sold this product through its whole hype cycle, so this is from experience.
Short version: licence holders can still have it. Everyone else should look at the alternatives, and we explain exactly why.
What To Book Instead
If you came here wanting a fun, photogenic few hours on the water with your group, these do that job better now. All bookable today.
Your own boat, your own group, a proper crew. Swim stops, drinks on board, and a captain who knows where the dolphins actually are.
- Why it wins now: a skipper belongs on a bigger boat. Nobody is squeezed.

Why A Skipper Breaks This Particular Boat
On a big boat a skipper is a bonus. Somebody else drives, you relax, they know the good spots. On this boat it is a genuine problem, and it is worth spelling out because the price has not changed and it would be easy to assume nothing has.
The boat seats four. That was always the limit. Add a skipper and you have three seats for your group, so a group of four cannot all come.
It is a Fiat 500, not a yacht. There is no separate helm, no deck to spread out on, no back of the boat to disappear to. Everyone is sitting together in a small car-shaped cabin.
The product was the photo. People booked this to post a picture of themselves driving a car on the sea. A picture with a member of staff in it is a different picture.
And the privacy is gone. Couples booked it for a quiet hour on the water. Three is a crowd in a Fiat 500.
None of this is anyone's fault. The law changed, the operator is following it correctly, and the price stayed fair. The product simply does not work the same way anymore, and we would rather say that than sell you yesterday's experience.

We are not pulling the product. If you hold a licence, or you genuinely do not mind a skipper aboard, it is still a laugh and the boat is still unique.
- Titulín, PER or a recognised foreign licence, plus valid ID and 18 or over.
- Send us a photo of the licence when you book. We confirm it before your date so you are not turned away at Gate 11.
- You drive, nobody else is aboard, all four seats are yours.
- A skipper comes with you, at the same boat price.
- One of the four seats is theirs, so book for a maximum of three guests.
- Subject to availability. Ask us before you plan around it.
- These boats may not be on the water much longer. The owners are reviewing whether to keep running them.
- Always message us to confirm before you build a day around it, especially if you are booking weeks ahead.

The Boat Itself
It is a real motorboat built to look like a classic Fiat 500. Not a car that floats, not a converted vehicle, a small boat with a car-shaped body on top. It is stable, simple to drive, and it genuinely does turn heads in the marina.

- Arrive at least 15 minutes before your departure.
- Parking at Puerto Colón is around 1.20€ per hour.
- Your boat licence if you are driving, plus valid ID. 18 or over.
- Swimwear and a towel, sun cream, and drinks if you want them.
- There is no shade on this boat. Reapply sun cream.

Do I need a boat licence to drive the floating car?
Yes, since 1 October 2026. Spanish law now requires a valid boat licence to drive any rental boat, and that includes the floating car. A Titulín, PER or recognised foreign licence is accepted.
Send Club Canary a photo of your licence when you book and we confirm it before your date, so nobody is turned away at Gate 11.
No licence? A skipper comes with you at the same boat price. The skipper uses one of the four seats, so book for a maximum of three guests.
If a skipper comes along, is it still worth it?
Honest answer: for most groups, no. The boat seats four and a skipper takes one of those seats, so a group of four cannot all come. There is no separate helm and no deck to spread out on, everyone sits together in a small car-shaped cabin.
The reason people booked this boat was a photo of their group driving a car on the sea, or a private hour as a couple. With somebody else aboard that is a different trip, and we would rather say so than take the booking.
If you hold a licence, go for it, all four seats are yours. If you do not, have a look at a private boat trip instead, where a skipper genuinely adds to the day.
How much does the floating car cost?
The price is per boat, not per person: 170€ for 1 hour (40€ deposit online, 130€ at the harbour) or 265€ for 2 hours (55€ deposit online, 210€ at the harbour).
The same price applies whether 1, 2, 3 or 4 people come, and fuel is included. The price did not change when the licence rule came in.
Is the floating car still available?
Availability is limited and it may change. Always message Club Canary to confirm before you plan a day around it, especially if you are booking weeks ahead.
If the boat becomes unavailable for your date, we offer you an alternative or refund your deposit in full.
Is it really a car, or a boat?

It drives like a little boat, with a wheel and a throttle, and it is stable and simple to handle. It also turns every head in the marina, which was always most of the appeal.
How many people fit, and where does it leave from?
Four seats in total. If you need a skipper, that is one of the four, so bring a maximum of three guests.
Departures are from Gate 11, Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje, close to the hotels in Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje. Full directions come on your Club Canary ticket, and parking at the marina is around 1.20€ per hour.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your departure time.
Can we swim during the trip?
Yes. There is a swim ladder at the back, so you can stop in a calm spot along the coast whenever you like.
Swimming near or approaching whales and dolphins is not allowed, and any coast guard fines are the renter's responsibility. This boat is not licensed for whale watching. If that is what you want, book a proper whale watching trip.
There is no shade on this boat, so bring sun cream and reapply it.
What should we book instead?
For most groups, a private boat trip. A skipper belongs on a bigger boat where nobody is squeezed, and you get shade, space, drinks on board and a crew licensed to show you whales and dolphins properly.
If you wanted the floating car for the wow factor, have a look at the Opera 60 instead. A serious private yacht rather than a novelty, and far better photos.

What if the weather is bad?
All trips depend on safe sea conditions. If the weather is unsuitable, Club Canary helps you reschedule for another day that works. If rescheduling is not possible, we refund your deposit in full.
Arriving late means the lost time comes off your rental rather than being added at the end. Seasickness or choosing to return early does not qualify for a refund.
Booking And Cancellation Policy
The Licence, Read This First
- Since 1 October 2026 a valid boat licence is required by Spanish law to drive this boat.
- Send a photo of your licence when you book. We confirm it with the operator before your date.
- Arriving without a valid licence means you cannot drive, and that is treated as a no-show. This is the law, not the operator being difficult.
- No licence? Request a skipper when booking. The skipper uses one of the four seats, so book for a maximum of three guests.
Deposit And Payment
- Reserve with a deposit online, pay the balance at the harbour. Cash is faster than card.
- The price is per boat, the same for 1 to 4 people.
Cancellation
- Free cancellation or changes up to 48 hours before, by email to office@clubcanary.com.
- 24 to 48 hours before: the deposit is not refundable.
- Under 24 hours or a no-show: 35% of the total is charged, excluding fuel.
- Arriving late means the lost time comes off your rental, not added to the end.
- Seasickness or returning early does not qualify for a refund.
Availability
- Availability of this boat is limited and may change. Confirm with Club Canary before planning a day around it.
- If the boat becomes unavailable, you are offered an alternative or a full refund of your deposit.
Weather
- All trips depend on safe sea conditions. If the weather is unsuitable we reschedule, or refund your deposit in full.
On The Water
- The driver must be 18 or over, sober, with a valid licence and ID.
- Respect marine life. Swimming near or approaching whales and dolphins is not allowed, and any coast guard fines are the renter's responsibility.

We sold this boat through its whole hype run, so believe us when we say the magic was never the engine. It was four mates in a Fiat 500 on the ocean, filming each other, with nobody else around.
Put a skipper in one of those four seats and the thing you came for is gone. It is not the operator's fault, the law changed and the price stayed fair. But we are not going to pretend it is the same trip.
If you hold a licence, go for it. It is still a genuinely daft and brilliant hour, and you get all four seats. Message us first though, availability is limited and we will tell you honestly what is on the water that week.
