Passenger licences in Spain have been tightened steadily over the decades. A charter boat licensed today, even a brand new 15 or 16 metre yacht, is typically capped at 11 or 12 passengers. That limit comes from certification class and crew requirements, not from deck space. It is why you can walk the marina and see large, expensive yachts that legally cannot take a group of 15.

The Neptuno was licensed a very long time ago, when the rules were far more flexible, and it kept that licence. Licences like it are not issued anymore. So a 13 metre boat from 1973 legally carries 22 people, while a newer and far more impressive boat beside it carries 12.

Yes, and properly. The Neptuno holds an official whale and dolphin watching licence, which in Tenerife is tightly controlled and very difficult to obtain.

This matters more than it sounds. Boats without the permit must keep their legal distance from cetaceans, so you end up watching a distant fin. A licensed boat can approach correctly, which is a completely different experience.

Tenerife waters hold resident pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins all year, so sightings are common rather than lucky. Nothing in nature is guaranteed, but the odds here are genuinely good.

The unusual part is that the Neptuno is only 13 metres long, and a modern boat that size is limited to 12 passengers. A licence dating from 1973 is what lets it carry nearly double.

So it is not a spacious boat, it is a boat that legally fits a lot of people. For a group of 14 to 22 who would otherwise need two separate boats, that is the whole appeal.

The base price covers up to 4 guests, and each extra guest adds a supplement, from 20€ for the fifth up to 235€ for the full 22.

No. 22 is a hard legal limit and there is no flexibility at all. Not 23, not 24, and children count as people. A baby in arms still counts.

This is not us being awkward. The licence sets the number, the Port Authority enforces it, and the crew will not leave the dock over capacity. If your group turns up with one extra person, that person stays ashore.

While we are being honest about numbers: once you are above about 15 guests the boat starts to feel full. The Neptuno is 13 metres. It legally fits 22 and it has 20 seats, but 22 adults on board is cosy, not roomy. Plenty of groups do it happily, and you should know what you are booking.

It is a 13 metre working boat built in 1973 and refitted in 2018. Safe, properly crewed and fully licensed, with an open upper deck, an open lower deck, a small salon and one toilet. There are no water toys, no slide, no snorkel equipment and no fishing gear.

What it offers is capacity and value, not polish. If you want a modern yacht and your group is 12 or fewer, a smaller private charter in Tenerife will suit you far better, and we would rather point you there.

A private charter of the whole boat for your group alone, up to 22 guests, with two professional crew: a skipper and a sailor. No strangers on board.

Lunch is included: rice with vegetables, meatballs in tomato sauce, coleslaw, bread and fruit.

Drinks are included: water, soft drinks, beer and wine.

The price is for the whole boat, not per person, and depends on how long you sail: 765€ for 3 hours rising to 2,455€ for 10 hours. The base covers up to 4 guests.

Each extra guest adds a supplement. For example, 12 guests on the 3 hour charter is 855€ in total, and the full 22 guests is 1,000€.

At 22 guests that works out at roughly 45€ per person for a private boat with crew, lunch and drinks included, which is closer to shared-trip money than private charter money.

You reserve with a deposit online and pay the balance on arrival. The booking calendar shows the exact total for your group.

It is who books it most. Big families, grandparents, parents and cousins all on one boat instead of split across two, with lunch and drinks already sorted so nobody is counting the cost of every soft drink.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. There is shaded seating as well as open deck, and one toilet on board.

One practical note: shoes are removed and stored for the trip, which is normal on this boat.

Three hours is enough for a cruise, a swim stop and a look for whales and dolphins. The longer charters give you time to explore more coast and can reach the cliffs of Los Gigantes, weather permitting.

From the Port of Los Cristianos, excursions dock, Zone B in the south of Tenerife. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure and a guide will meet you at the gate. Your exact meeting point is on your Club Canary ticket.

Departures between 09:00 and 16:00 carry no extra charge. A later start at 17:00 or 18:00 adds 80€, paid on arrival.

Parking at the port is around 1.20€ per hour. For a large group, the optional pickup is often simpler than organising cars.

Yes, optional and both ways. Driving yourself to the harbour is free.

Both are paid on arrival. Add your address or hotel name at checkout, and message us if your area is not listed.

Free cancellation up to 8 days before your charter, by email to office@clubcanary.com. 4 to 8 days before: you lose your deposit, nothing further is charged.
2 to 4 days before: you lose your deposit and pay 100€ per booked hour.
Under 2 days or a no-show: you lose your deposit and pay 90% of the remaining balance. A whole boat and two crew are blocked for your group alone and turned away from everyone else, which is why the deposit cannot cover a late cancellation. If the charter is cancelled for unsafe weather, you choose a new date or a full refund.
