Self-Drive Stargazing, Quick Facts
Got a Car in Tenerife? This Is Your Teide Stargazing Tour
We meet at the Chio Recreational Area for check-in, Canarian tapas and drinks, then you simply follow the guide's van about 20 minutes to our dark-sky spot inside Teide National Park. Expect an engaging sky presentation with lasers and Celestron Evolution 8 telescopes, and about 3 hours after meeting you are back at your car, free to head home or continue your evening.
Honest Expectations
Meeting times shift with the season: between 18:00 and 18:30 in winter, between 19:15 and 19:30 in summer, always confirmed on your ticket. Nights at altitude get chilly, so bring layers; limited spare jackets can be lent when available. The night is weather dependent: if the guide calls it off, you hear at least 2 hours before and you reschedule or get your money back.

Why Self-Drive Teide Stargazing Is The Smart Choice With A Car
If you already have transport, paying big-bus prices makes little sense. This is Teide stargazing for drivers: you keep your freedom, skip the pick-up routes, and still get the same guide, telescopes and tapas as the main tour, at better value for people who already have wheels. Not a pricey private tour, not a mass excursion, and no restaurant detours: a Teide night tour without pickup delays, sitting in the sweet spot between the two.
Where We Meet And Why
We meet at the Chio Recreational Area, and running the Teide stargazing from Chio keeps things simple: mobile signal inside the park is limited, so a direct meeting point means nobody gets lost. At Chio you check in, enjoy the picnic included in the price, and get to know the guide and the group. It is relaxed and social, not a long sit-down dinner. Then the convoy rolls: the same small-group Teide stargazing night as the main tour, joined by car.

Teide Self-Drive Stargazing FAQ
The questions drivers ask us most before this self-drive night. Still unsure? Chat with our local team on WhatsApp, we help fast.
What is the Teide stargazing no pick-up tour?
It is a guided self-drive stargazing experience in Teide National Park. You drive your own car to the Chio Recreational Area, enjoy tapas and drinks, then follow the guide's van about 20 minutes to a dark-sky spot for a telescope session, fully in English.
Do I need my own car for this Teide stargazing tour?
Yes. This version has no hotel pickup, so a rental car or your own vehicle is required. If you do not have a car, the main guided Mount Teide stargazing tour with hotel pickup is the right choice instead.
Where is the meeting point for the self-drive stargazing tour?
The meeting point is the Chio Recreational Area, on the western route into Teide National Park. The exact Google Maps pin is linked on this page and on your ticket. Meeting times are between 18:00 and 18:30 in winter and between 19:15 and 19:30 in summer.
Is driving up Mount Teide at night safe?
Yes. The route uses normal paved mountain roads, and guests follow the guide's vehicle from Chio to the selected stargazing location, about 20 to 30 minutes. Drive carefully, keep a safe distance and follow the guide's instructions.
How long does the Teide self-drive stargazing experience last?
About 3 to 4 hours from the meeting point: roughly 45 to 60 minutes for check-in, tapas and the briefing at Chio, a 20 minute convoy drive, and 90 to 120 minutes of real stargazing time under the telescopes.
Are tapas and drinks included?
Yes. A picnic with Canarian tapas, wine, cava, beer and soft drinks is included at the Chio meeting point before the convoy leaves. Alcohol served before the drive is light and optional, since guests drive their own cars afterwards.
What telescopes are used during the tour?
Professional Celestron Evolution 8 telescopes, combined with a laser-guided sky tour. The guide shows planets, constellations and, on clear nights, the Milky Way over Teide.
How large is the group and what language is used?
Usually 10 to 12 guests in total, with a maximum of 16. The whole experience runs only in English, with no mixed-language commentary, which keeps the night calm and easy to follow.
Is this cheaper than a stargazing tour with hotel pickup?
Yes. This self-drive version costs less because hotel pickup is removed, and nothing else changes: the same guide, the same Celestron telescopes and the same tapas at Chio. It is the better value for travelers who already have a rental car.
What happens if the weather is cloudy?
The guide monitors conditions before every tour. If the night is not safe or not worth it, you are notified at least 2 hours before the start and you choose between a free reschedule or a full refund. No message means the tour runs.
Can I leave independently after the stargazing session?
Yes. After the telescope session you can follow the guide's van back toward South Tenerife or drive off independently whenever you like. That freedom is one of the main reasons drivers choose this version.
Why book the experience through Club Canary?
Club Canary offers local support, easy deposit booking and clear information before the tour. You receive fast confirmation and assistance from a Tenerife-based team available every day from 08:00 to 22:00, plus a Best Price Guarantee.

Booking Policy
Thank you for booking your self-drive stargazing night. These terms keep things fair for you, for other guests and for the guide who reserves the night for the group.
Deposit And Payment
You confirm your place with a 20€ deposit per person, which counts toward the total. Pay the remaining 30€ per person in cash to the guide at check-in in Chio. The deposit secures your reservation but does not cover late cancellations or no-shows. Please check your confirmation email after booking and report any errors immediately.
Cancellation Policy
Individuals and groups under 5: free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour.
Groups of 5 or more: free cancellation up to 4 days before.

After the free period the deposit is lost and additional costs may apply. No refund for no-shows or same-day cancellations.

Groups of 5 or more: cancel between 24 hours and 3 days before means the 50% rule, less than 24 hours means the full amount.
Groups of 10 or more: cancel between 48 hours and 6 days before means the 50% rule, less than 48 hours means the full amount.
Weather And Operations
Tours depend on suitable skies. If the guide decides conditions are not safe or not enjoyable, you are rescheduled or fully refunded. We aim to notify you at least 2 hours before start time if weather forces a cancellation; if you do not hear from us, the tour runs. The exact stargazing spot in Teide National Park may change due to clouds or wind, and self-drive guests follow the guide's van for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Late Arrivals And Missed Meeting
Arrive on time at the Chio Recreational Area, reception in the park is limited once the group departs. If you are late, we try to help; in the worst case you can take a taxi at your own cost to the first stop to catch up. If joining is not possible, late-cancel fees apply. Keep the phone number you provided reachable on the day, the guide usually communicates via WhatsApp.
Responsibility And Conduct
This self-drive option joins our small-group stargazing, and Club Canary works with licensed local partners. Please follow safety instructions and drive carefully in convoy. Disrespectful behavior may lead to exclusion without refund. Any on-site issue should be raised immediately with the guide for the fastest resolution.
Photos
The guide often shares complimentary photos within 3 to 4 days. This is a free extra, not a paid service, and cannot be guaranteed. The guide messages you directly, so there is no need to contact the office about photo delivery.
Environmental Care
Protect Teide's night environment: no littering, keep to marked areas, minimise light and noise. Bins are available in the park. Bring your own warm jacket, hat and gloves if possible, limited spares may be lent by the guide when available.
Assistance And Refunds
Questions or changes? Email info@clubcanary.com. Refunds on the day require the guide's approval, as balances are paid directly to them.
By booking with Club Canary, you confirm that you have read and accepted this policy. When someone does not show up or cancels late, we have already turned other guests away and coordinated partner time. Thanks for understanding and helping us keep the experience smooth for everyone.
